The Grass is Greener on the Other Side

I did not particularly hate high school, but I would definitely not say it was the best four years of my life. I cannot even begin to count how many people told me that it would be the best years of my life. Whoever thought that must have been crazy because college and life after that is going to be far better than any high school experience I have ever had.

Honestly though, high school was not all that bad. Like Philissa’s story from High School’s Not Forever, I knew that life would be a lot better after high school was over. There would be more opportunities presented to me, more challenges to face, and far more rewarding experiences to be had after I walk across the stage to get my diploma than when I was in high school. I knew the road was not going to be easy, but I was far more prepared for it with the help of my family, friends, teachers, and Philissa’s story.

I pushed myself hard throughout my high school career. There was not an Advanced Placement, honors class, or club that I did not take or was an active member in. I did this simply because I knew that high school was not the end of the road for me. There is a much bigger and better world out there, and I want to be prepared to take it by the horns. Like Philissa, I took it upon myself to push myself to prepare for life after graduation. I knew that college was the next step for me, and I wanted to be sure to have the best experience possible. So I strove to be the best I could be in high school.

I found Philissa’s story very helpful because oftentimes, I pushed myself and did not know what I was doing or where I was really heading. Her story helped keep me focused and on track throughout my high school career. When I doubted myself in high school, I would look at Philissa’s entry and understand that there really is “something better out there.” It inspired me to keep working to achieve my goal.

This year, I successfully graduated high school with a 4.6 grade point average and highest honors. And, I am proud to say that I got accepted into the University of Rhode Island. I like to think that it was my hard work in high school that got me where I heading today. I will be starting college in the fall with a brand new life ahead of me. I will leave high school behind me in California and have a fresh new start. I can be whoever and whatever I want because of my commitment and dedication in high school. It was difficult, but I definitely would not have been able to do without the help of my family, friends, and the book, High School’s Not Forever. Thank you so much!

I can't really put a finger on why I think your writing is better. Since you have been posting at ProgU, you always had decent command of grammer and been able to express yourself with clear sentences. But somehow, this blog comes across as more sophisticated then your previous posts.

Wow thank you so much! I never knew anyone was really paying much attention to the things I was saying. This truly means a lot to me, seriously. Thanks :)
