Should the Government (State or Federal) be able to take and store DNA samples of newborns?

Recently I saw the poll on the side of the Progressive U page and decided to vote. There were four options: Yes, the uses and benefits of the possible research are unlimited!, No way! My DNA - My Property., Only if they get my consent for each and every test they plan to perform., or I don't really care either way; it won't effect me directly. I voted yes, not because I thought about the research possibilities, but because this would help solve crimes. There are numerous cases where a DNA database would help tremendously because they have DNA from the suspect, but unfortuneately the suspect is not in the system due to no previous criminal record. Do you understand by the government collecting DNA from people before they do commit a crime how many people's lives will be different? If the governemnt had been doing this for a long time we might know who committed a rape or a murder, rather than having so many cold cases and cases that go unsolved past the point of being able to charge someone for the crime. Rape victims are only allowed five years in our system to find the person that raped them and get some sort of justice. I find this unfair, it's not like the victim forgets or gets over the rape after five years, they live with that damage for the rest of their life. And what about all of those families that hve had a parent or child taken from them, don't they deserve some sort of closure and justice by putting the person responsible in jail? I feel that the governemnt shouldn't take our DNA to do experiments, but to keep a database of people who could commit such hanis crimes in the future. You never know when a child is born if they are going to grow up and rape people or murder people, but shouldn't we have the comfort of knowing if someone does those crimes or any other crime that can be solved with DNA evidence that they will receive the punishment implemented by the government rather than running loose on the street having the ability to commit more crimes? This kind of DNA collection could also serve as a paternity/maternity database. There are people who are adopted they never know who their birth parents are, but wish to know. There are even people who think they know who their parents are when truely their mother or father isn't their birth parent. This would reduce the number of paternity and marternity tests needed to be performed for those people and would make finding your true birth parents that much easier. Those of us who know our birth parents might find this to be something silly, but it could really matter. Due to the fact that we know who our birth parents are, we know what diseases we could develop like diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc. and knowing that about ourselves helps determine our medical history, what medicines we can or cannot take, and potentially know the way we may end up dying. DNA sampling can be used for the greater good, I feel we just need to get the government to see that they should not use our DNA for experiments, but to help those in need.
