2012 the polar flux

thank you for joining us, I am Sarah Kimble, and I am tom Jones, you are watching news channel 40. our top story tonight comes to us from NASA, where scientists who have been puzzling over the reversed magnetic field called the south Atlantic anomaly, and what it means to us. here's Tanya brown with more on that story, Tanya? thank you Sarah, I am here with geologist Dave Oberon, hello Dave, glad you could be with us tonight. so what exactly is the south Atlantic anomaly? about 10 years ago we noticed a peculiar reading in the southern Atlantic ocean, where we found reversed polarity in the earths magnetic field. it is a concern at this time due to radiation caused by solar flares and storms, and just what does that mean to us we cannot be sure. this anomaly is growing at an alarming rate, we haven't been too worried about it until now. scientists are scrambling around trying to understand the cause of this reversed polarity. unfortunately we have only begun to seriously studying this, the truth is, we don't have any real answers, at least none confirmed yet. it may or may not pose a threat to life on earth, we simply don't know. now Dave, you were talking about "global warming" having something to do with this anomaly. yes, in our research in the south Atlantic we discovered that the north and south poles have shifted to such a degree that Canada is now near the equator. back in 2001 when we noticed the decline of the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica we were very concerned about what that meant to the worlds oceans if they were to melt completely. in 2011, the coastal regions of the world were inundated with swollen tides of up to fifteen feet. fortunately we had been expecting this and were prepared to evacuate all cities in the coastal regions. the face of earth has completely changed in such a short amount of time. we wouldn't have believed it was possible 5 years ago. mother nature is indeed the boss. after Antarctica was freed from the ice, the poles fluxed even more, south America is beginning to freeze and Antarctica is becoming a rock desert as it is currently sits where the Sahara desert used to be. it is inevitable now, that we should expect and plan for a complete reversal of the poles by the year 2012. what scientists have been able to understand about this phenomena, is frightening in itself. after the first one hundred years of the reversal, the earth will no longer be able to maintain the ability to produce electricity. essentially, the battery will die, iron will sleep with no magnetic properties, much like that of a battery, negative, and positive. our earth will generate a negative charge, thus electricity will no longer exist. this is a frightening reality. and since it has never happened in human history we don't know what else to expect. this kind of thing has happened many times in the past noted on the ocean floor near the Marianas trench, the iron on one side is sleeping, the other is not. we know the earth will not be destroyed, as it has survived many reversals, its the solar radiation bombarding the earths weakened magnetic field that is the concern. we have no idea what this means for life on earth. reversals happen every 23,416 years. we are now working hard to turn our electric energy into solar energy, but we cant know how far we will be able to go with this, the land and oceans have already begun trading places. thank you Dave, quite concerning indeed, back to you Sarah, tom.
