Wow, time flies! I am eighteen and heading off to college soon. But, the other day was hanging out with my very best childhood friend, and we got talking about some of the crazy stuff we did when we were little. Looking back, I realize how freaking awesome my life was growing up. Some of the stuff we did was insane! I mean seriously, most kids did not do the stuff we did growing up.
Every day was like a brand new adventure at my house. There are so many things; I do not even know where to begin. I think a good place to start is the orange fights. Yes, I said orange fight. The goal was to pelt the other team with as many oranges as you can before you got so disgustingly gross that you needed to get hosed off before allowed inside. The only rule was that you needed to step on the oranges before throwing them at the other team. This was to ensure that nobody got any unnecessary bruises in the game. There was one neighbor in particular that did not abide to this rule at all (and it was very painful!)
Right now, you may be asking yourself, where in the world do you acquire the oranges necessary for an orange fight? Well let me tell you…We had a local orange tree orchard that was filled with oranges, big and small. So simply, grab, stash, or carry them with you where ever. This was the perfect recipe for fun. My friends and I spent many days running up and down our street, hopping over fences, running through yards, and yes, hiding on roof tops. We dodged oranges, planned attacks, and made defensive maneuvers.
This was one of the many memorable experiences I had while growing up. If one can even imagine, this was not even the craziest things we did. Can you picture, World War Three, drinking a saucer of Italian dressing, making a game show involving disgusting combinations of food, and so much more?
I honestly wish my friends and I wrote everything down that we did because I am sure we did so many more things that we can’t even remember. Oh well, this is my attempt to recapture my childhood. C’est la vie!

That sounds like the most AWESOME game. Like, that would be something I would subtly tell my kids about to see if they try to do it. Are there still orchards around your home? My mom grew up in Southern California and they used to have a plethora of orange fields, but now there are barely any.
You just reminded me of a random time in my childhood...I used to live in an apartment complex, and my sister, her friend, and myself were standing in a courtyard when water balloons started falling from the sky around our feet. When we looked up, we saw another friend's dad at his balcony, throwing them at us while his son came around the corner with his HUGE super soaker. He chased us around. After about two laps around the courtyard, an old lady that we barely talked to stepped out of her apartment and handed us girls a bunch of water guns and a bucket of balloons that she had filled up, just for us. We turned the tables on him, but before we knew it like every kid we knew came outside to play water war with us. One kid even hooked up a hose! Wow...I'd completely forgotten about that day. I remember it took us like three hours to get all the grass off of us...
Thanks. :D
Haha I love your water war story. That sounds like such an incredible memory. Dang I wish my friends and I thought of that too...lol.
There aren't orange orchards around my house, so to say. But all my neighbors each have an acre of land, and it just so happened that my house had a mini orange orchard with like seven or eight trees. I tend to exaggerate when I tell stories, lol sorry. But a while back, I know that my city did used to be covered with orange trees.
