I dont kno if its just at my school or what but i’m a senior at a suburban public school.
I never had a problem wiht the school or the teachers until late junior year and all of this year.
I have a bio class with the same teacher i had freshman year. She was nice and i always respected her.
Recently all she seems to do is talk to a select few in our class about beer pong and other drinking games.
she has even told us that she was arrested in a different country for indecent exposure.
She has told us a few of her drinking stories. I know that we are older but still i think
that it is innapropriate
to talk about that in school. What really ticks me off is that she takes time out of class to talk about this.
If i happen to have a question i have to wait for her
to finish her beer convo before she will come help me. I do underderstand that teachers have lives
outside of school and that they
are human but we are in a school setting. I think the teachers shold keep tha
t for outside the classrooms or atleast until we graduate
Beer Pong?

I don't know if it is something that has always gone on or if it is something new but in the last couple of years there has been a spate of inappropriate behavior particularly from young female teachers (e.g. all the teacher-student sex arrests). This seems to fit the pattern. They seem to be more interested in fitting into the classroom socially then being a role model, authority figure and teacher.
I am a terrible speller too. You should run a spell checker on your blogs.
I recommend talking to the principal about that behavior. Try to get a recording of her telling a story, so the principal knows you aren't making it up. Or keep a log in a notebook. Don't worry about getting her in trouble. She should NOT be talking to you guys about binge drinking (because let's be honest, that's where drinking games inevitably lead), unless she is telling you about the dangers of binge drinking. You are not her peers. She is supposed to be teaching you biology. She should not be telling you stories about her personal life or her risky behavior. The bottom line is, she is not doing her job, AND she is glamorizing a really dangerous behavior.

Ya I agree she is being unprofessinal and setting a bad example of proper work conduct. I think you should record or log her and go the the head. good luck :)
I wish there were better educated and more qualified people willing to be teachers, then people like this wouldn't be able to keep their teaching jobs. This woman reminds me of my regular Government Class teacher from high school. My teacher was young, maybe 24, totally insecure and wanted to be accepted by her students more than she cared about our education. It led to her allow people to light up cigarettes in class and draw penises on the white board. Teachers like this and the one you described shouldn't be able to keep their jobs, but I bet you're school won't fire her because they can't afford to try to replace her.

My understanding is that if you are willing to work in an urban school it is not hard to find a job. But there is actually a fair amount of competition for the more desireable suburban teaching jobs so that schools actually do have a fair amount of ability to be choosy.
I don't know where this particular teacher is teaching and what the job market is like so you may be right.
I got the impression that this teacher used to be a good teacher and only recently has started behaving inappropriately. I wonder why? Did she earn tenure and now feels like she can retire in-place and draw a paycheck forever? Is she burned out? Is she a short-timer about to make a career shift (pretty common for teachers to leave the profession) and doesn't care anymore?
Maybe she just needs some counseling as part of her performance review to get her back on the straight and narrow. That won't happen if the Adminstration is not made aware of the problem.
Are you talking about my teacher? I'll assume, yes, but sorry if you're talking about the author.
I went to high school in a suburban area. The teacher was young, the year I had her for Gov. was her first year teaching in our district as a full time teacher. She's been a long-term sub for my sister's Algebra class the year before (her degree was in U.S. History and Poli Sci) and she was never able to keep control of my sister's class. My mom went in and spoke to her, but all that happened was that she was nicer to my sister, the class situation didn't improve. The woman was (and is I'm sure) a idiot. I reported her behavior with my Gov. class to the administration. They "talked" to her about it. As in nothing changed.
Why didn't they fire her? You mentioned major competition for suburban teaching jobs. I lived in an expensive area (e.g. teachers couldn't afford to live there). And how many highly qualified teachers with History or Poli Sci degrees are fighting for public school teaching jobs, especially for non-AP classes? Plus this teacher was single and willing to volunteer for school functions like chaperoning dances and setting up events for seniors, so in that sense she was useful to the school.
