I'd like to start up a little debate here, based off of a train of thought i had a while back. I was browsing through a Science Fiction collection book and came across Ray Bradbury's a Sound of Thunder, where one of the characters was explaining to the other how if you kill something in the past as small as a mouse, you kill all of it's future descendants down the line to the point of mass genocide. I immediately jumped to a human conclusion about this.
Without war, would we still be alive? If every single man killed by war or violence against another had still lived, so would his children and all of his children, all the way down the line to millions of people. The world would have over populated itself eons ago, and we would all be dead. The thought hit me that war might actually be necessary as a population check, and without it who knows what would have happened? Feel free to take this idea put on your own spin, and run with it. I'll be interested to see how the discussion plays out.

Hmmm.... If people figured out how to wash their hands and burry the dead back when the plague first started there would have been more World wars to shut down the human population killing us all a long time ago.
Its an interesting thought.
There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic.~- Anais Nin
People fear dead because they are all being programmed to believe while therefore fear dead!
To live in a world in which still today people are unaware they are in fact eternal beings which simply don’t die, is as ridicule as it sounds!
Most don’t even recall how they got here in the first place!
The reason why live after live we change of appearance and physical body is exactly to make us understand, because our experiences lived in previous lives are exactly that which expands our consciousness.
The fact we are being born a slave in this world makes it hard to grasp, while those hate factories push us to breed, they love offspring!
Although most will deny, any father or mother, deep inside caries funny thoughts of copying a part of the self inside its offspring. This is very true, while the main reason and drive why people are popping children like if it has become a national sport. It being sponsored by all the available hate factories makes it easy a decision to add, were there is already abundance!
But all this copying doesn’t relate souls, meaning that the soul who takes place inside the newborn at birth is while never will be a mixture of mum and dad. This child will be able to surf down the blue print of its parents, only to come to an understanding it leads to the very same source of you, I, him, she, them or whomever!
If this all sounds like crap, I’m sure it will for most amongst reading this, it only means one is caught up in the web of illusions, in others words, an obedient unaware individual being a slave, a soldier which can be send out with or without weapons to fight a war.
War has more purposes which are actually easy to explain, maybe later....
I disagree that all people are "popping" out babies like it's a "national sport"- as you quite interestingly put it. In most Western countries, the birth rate is below the "sustainable limit" of 2 children per a couple (since those two kids would replace their parents when they die, leaving population constant- in theory). The horrendously high world birth rates are coming from developing countries, especially places that can't afford more people- like Africa or South America.
Although I understand your reasoning, there are some realities which are been overlooked.
“Developing countries” is just a word put in one’s mind while used as a hypocritical façade in order to cover up the truths of grotesque abuse which are inflicted upon people. We all know this, but we are programmed to look the other way!

“Sustainable limit” is only in accordance with the amount of Western control, looting and abuse which takes place somewhere else, far away!
“Chocolate” is only one example of many which one can follow to the root of the tree, in order to understand something important, while maybe realize something else!

It will eventually backlash upon us all, in ways which go beyond imagination!
I remember reading that story. And I think you're right that the hundreds of millions who have died in wars, famines, epidemics, etc have prevented even more billions of people from being born over time. The old English economist Thomas Malthus had a theory about population growth: he observed that since humans reproduce exponentially, and food only arithmetically, there has to come a time when people will suddenly far exceed food, and the only way to get the balance back in synch is to kill millions- such as through war.
It turns out that Malthus was wrong- our population has continued to grow and grow, but that's because we've been winning the war against nature. The Green Revolution in farming now allows us to produce more food per acre of land than ever imaginable. I've heard that the UN has calculated that the Earth, thanks to agricultural technologies, can sustain billions more people. Of course, it wouldn't be a very happy existence.
The ideal situation, I think, is one where wars and other calamities are reduced, but so is the birth rate. Maybe wars and famines will decrease in the coming decades, but I doubt there will be a let-up in population growth for a very long time.
