Education is the Key to Life

If I were awarded a scholarship of $5,000 for college, I would be jumping up and down with so much enthusiasm, that nobody would know what to do with me. Ever since junior high school, I have been preparing myself for college. I have pushed myself to the greatest extent by taking Advanced Placement and honors classes since the seventh grade. I was determined that I was going to get into a good college and I knew that the only way to do this was to push myself to succeed. There were nights when I felt so overwhelmed that I did not think I could get through it, but the burning desire to go to college kept me alive and fighting.

I knew in my mind (and with my parents love and encouragement of course) that I wanted to go to college away from home where I would be able to get the complete college experience. Going to college somewhere totally new and different from where I grew up would be an incredible learning experience for me. It was clear to me that the only way to do this was to go out of state. In a new place, I will be forced to acclimate to the weather, new types of food, and the different ways of life and beliefs of people. It may be hard and sometimes frustrating, but I know it will be worthwhile in the end. I will walk away with something so much greater than just a scholastic education.

Unfortunately, everything has a price, and a college education is a mighty high one to pay. In today’s crazy economic times, the price of out of state tuition more than twice the amount of that of an instate student. This leaves my family in a very difficult situation financially. Ever since the birth of my triplet siblings, six years ago, expenses have gone through the roof. With one working parent and one stay at home mom, it is very difficult for my parents to make ends meet. On top of all that, my family lives in a very expensive part of the country, Los Angeles.

A scholarship of any amount whatsoever would be greatly appreciated by my parents and myself.

If your siblings are now six, and thus school aged, I would think it would be better economically for you for your stay at home parent to go work, at least part time. If things are really that difficult, that's probably the best option.

And, lucky for you, you have dozens of instate universities to choose from. You don't have to go out of state to get an awesome education. Last I checked, UCLA had a pretty awesome reputation.
