Attending and completing a postsecondary college program will help me achieve my lifetime goals by teaching me how to be a better person. I know that my career goals are fluid, and may change many times during the course of my studies. However, many of the most important lessons I will learn in college are not necessarily going to be taught in a classroom. I will be exposed to, and interact with, people from all over the United States. Many will have political and cultural opinions that differ from mine. These experiences in college will give me the tools I need to not only tolerate differences, but also embrace them and learn how to form and manage relationships with those that are different from me. Being exposed to these differences throughout my college career will teach me to have an open mind, become a better communicator and ultimately a more well-rounded person.
College will teach me how to interact, cooperate, support, embrace and work together with people. During the time it takes for me to earn my undergraduate degree, I will be exposed to many different types of situations. Living on my own, without parents watching my every move, I will be forced to learn time management, how to work with others, and become more self-sufficient.
Upon graduation, I plan to give back to my community by sharing my experiences from college to promote goodwill and fellowship to all those that I meet. Outside of the university’s walls I hope to become a responsible community member; my goal is to help bridge the gap across the United States. There are so many people that do not understand the culture and diversity of our great nation. It is my goal to bring people together. I know it is a difficult task at hand, but with the help of everyone, we, as Americans, will be one step closer to peace and prosperity.
College is an important time in life that will help me grow as an individual. It is a time of trial and error. Kids are thrust into the world and forced to rehabilitate and adjust to new environments. Experiencing problems and finding solutions are two of the things that make college so great. I will be able to successfully enter the workforce and make a difference with the knowledge and experiences I will gain while earning my degree.
