The Age Old Question..."How Will This Scholarship Help You Achieve Your Goals?"

I should be used to this by now, but I am not. I am constantly asked in scholarship applications to answer the question, “how will this scholarship help you?” I feel like the reasons are so obvious, “Duh, I want to go to college. Why else would I want a scholarship?” I realize however that this is not a valid answer.

So, I have come up with a few reasons of my own (some may be corny and overused, but here goes)…

A scholarship will help me get into college because I deserve to go. I have worked my butt for my entire high school career while everyone else was partying and having fun. I always studied and never went out. (Just kidding, you should never, EVER, say this in a scholarship essay).

1.) A scholarship will give me the opportunity to move out of my house and experience life in a brand new setting. I will be forced to adapt to a new way of life away from the comfort and confines of my family.

2.) A scholarship will help my dad give me what he never had. He got an Associates Degree from the community college right down the street from where he was born and raided. It would make him (and me) so happy to be able to give me the gift of education.

3.) A scholarship will help me prepare for life in the real world. I will have to take care of myself, manage my time, work hard, and learn to collaborate with others, whether it is my peers or my elders.

4.) A scholarship will give me the educational tools I need to prepare myself for my future career. Fun Fact: People with a college education often make twice as much as people without one.

5.) A scholarship will allow me to attend college so that I can prepare myself for life after. I will be in an environment where I know I will make mistakes. The important thing to do is learn from them and move forward. By time I graduate, I will be better prepared for my career and future.

This is an age-old question, but it needs to be answered time and time again.

FYI: This is me brainstorming about what to write about for a straightforward media scholarship. I am trying to get something new and fresh. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I think it works. The only problem I had was with the beginning...and then you said "just kidding", so it all worked out. :)
