I am fat. This is the cry of many teen girls who feel that their size is not good enough. The media glamorizes being skinny and shows off all the perks for those who achieve such a status. At a very young age girls are led to believe that if you are not skinny you do not look pretty. Girls who are not considered to be the "ideal" weight tend to struggle with their self confidence. These insecurities can lead teens to eating disorders, such as bulimia and anorexia. The girls involved in these eating disorders do not care about how hungry they are as long as they get the results they desire. The public needs to set a better example to girls. You do not have to be a size zero to belong in the world. The world is made up of many different people who range in sizes and shapes. No one is the same and all of us should be happy with the people we are. This should be shown not only at schools, but also on the television and movies that millions of people watch. We want future generations to be proud of who they are and make the world a better place. It would be great to see a world where self confidence is seen around every corner.

Males can have eating disorders and body image problems as well.
This is a good post that is short and makes a good point. I would've had to write a ten paragraphs to get an idea like this across!
I agree...it's really sad to see so many people obsessed about their weight. My motto is "Fat and happy." :P It's what I tell anyone who complains about their weight. LOL

Some people need to be told they're fat in order to get them to lose the weight they medically need to. Yes, pressuring young girls to fit into a size 0 is going to depress the self esteem of some. But, there's no reason a girl should be happy with being 100 lbs overweight. It's a dangerous condition, and she needs to work to correct it.
This, by the way, is coming from someone who was way overweight at puberty, and had no excuse for it. I've lost like 35 lbs in the past few years, and could stand to lose a few more. I'll never fit into a size 0 (or a size 8, for that matter... my structure is just too big). I'm mostly content with the way I look now, partially because I am at a somewhat healthy weight.

Well, I definitely agree that there are people who are just overweight and need to do something about it. However, there are also people who are big boned and think they're fat because they have large structures. Then there are people who want to lose like 5 pounds because supposedly 5 pounds make a difference, but I have no clue why. :P Those are moreso the people that I refer to...the ones where "fat" is more of a mentality than health issue.

It is the toxins and poisons in our food supply that are the major reason people are overweight. MSG and aspartame are particularly bad offenders. Getting healthy is more important than how you look anyway. Watch the movie Sweet Remedy if you want to know how to lose weight:

The focus needs to be on health, not looks. Instead of worrying about looks, focus on how you feel, both physically and mentally.

It would be nice to get a more personal perspective and a more particular example but I guess you wanted to write the general and not the specific
still, weight is an issue that is often thought of as an easy thing for people to understand but it's not, it is very personal and society is just one of the many things that influences, hugely, on the person and their ideas or issues with weight
