I thought this year’s Academy Awards was incredible. It has come to my attention however, that some of the critics found it “corny” and “unnecessary.” There are other people I know that are totally against the idea of even having such an extravagant awards ceremony when our economy is doing so poorly.
I believe that films are such an intricate part of our society today. They reflect the past, present, and future. They depict social issues, love affairs, action filled adventures, comedic moments, and so much more. Movies allow viewers to get a glimpse at events they probably do not see everyday. Moviemaking is a true art; it is completely necessary to reward all the people that work to make our unique culture so great. These people deserve to be recognized for everything they do and the Academy Awards is the perfect way to do it.
Even in the current economic crisis, I believed the Academy made excellent use of its resources. It was a completely new and reinvented awards ceremony. I loved all the new dancing and singing numbers this year. The act with Hugh Jackman and Beyonce Knoles was truly incredible. The voices were superb and the dancing was excellent. I have never been so entertained by the ceremony before. It was also amazing to have past Oscar award winning actors and actresses speak directly to the ones nominated this year. I could actually see how much it really meant to the nominees to be spoken to and praised by past award winning actors.
I thought the 81st Academy Awards was truly incredible and will become the archetype for the Oscars in the future. I cannot wait until next year to see what the Oscars has in store for us.
