I think that Barack Obama is a very inspirational figure, and that his influence on getting youth out and voting and active in politics is admirable. I feel that the youth who simply cheer for Obama because he is Obama is apathy to the worst level but in all honesty people do that on both sides of the “big line”.
I do, however, want to bring up something important - Looking out for your own, yourself, interests even with someone you trust. This is a great life lesson but a lesson here in particular. 850 BILLION dollars are going to be spent on this stimulus package, wich is all fine and dandy… I want money to be given back to me as well. However, what is this money being spent on? Me? Nope.
Nearly 100 BILLION dollars are going to cash-strapped state governments (governments that couldn’t manage their finances in the first place), and 350 BILLION dollars in “Infrastructure, Alternative Energy, and ‘Other Priorities’ “. What does this mean though? It means that your hard earned tax dollars are going to fund a 1.5 Million dollar water ride and a 4.8 MILLION dollar polar bear exhibit. These expenses are wasteful, but you guys won’t hear about it from the media, of course not.
Now there are some good things a Biofuel plant in Iowa, that sounds nice, it will give Iowa people jobs… oh wait, I have to pay $500 MILLION dollars for that? Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz wants to build a boat repair yard… oh sorry that was a Yacht repair yard. Lets get real America!
You know what else I love? Giving my money to people who don’t even live here. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that fact that illegal immigrants may file a tax return, and we will give them a check too! FREE MONEY FOR EVERYONE!!! I think Julio McCrea is my room mate and he wants his tax rebate too. As a dual citizen, I could easily skip taxes and not be caught…. but I don’t do that because I like helping out my country and making sure that it has enough money to keep functioning: What I DON’T like is giving my money to people who don’t live here… and who just drain our resources… lets take the tax returns from illegal immigrants and give that money to the hospitals that they have bankrupted in Southern California? Ha ha!
Oh by the way 350 BILLION dollars that is going to “Infrastructure, Alternative Energy, and ‘Other Priorities’ ” can fuel all of americas cars for around a year!! I wouldn’t mind having free gas for a year, can that be my incentive? How about 7MILLION free rides to harvard? $30 Billion Dollars would provide education to EVERY CHILD ON EARTH for a year. Ohh or we can just spend $54 Billion dollars and end starvation and malnutrition GLOBALLY. (Boston.com) I don’t like blowing my money on proejcts like these… but I feel we can all agree these are better than a foot ball stadium.
Its really easy spending other peoples money… why not take a pay cut congress, to fund some of these things. I understand your desire to help out the people in your state… so take some of your money, and give it to them directly. Sometimes what glitters is gold… and I am going to keep that gold hidden away under my bed because how it looks now, if those people see it they are going to rip it from my hands and give it to some dumb cause.

Obama says spending is stimulous and that is the whole point.
But a lot of this spending won't happen for at least two years so at best, even if we accept Obama's premise, the stimulous will be ill-timed.
Personally I think this spending is more about implement a liberal agenda then creating jobs or stimulating the economy and putting people to work. Obama has promised that the stimulous would create around 4 million jobs. Lets do the math:
$800 billion of spending divided by 4 million jobs = $200,000 per job
Those had better be awful damm good jobs to cost that much to create! I doubt they will be and frankly I am extremely dubious that the spending that I have seen outlined will create anywhere near that number of jobs.
We are putting our grand-children in debt and it won't accomplish anything. Keynsian economics don't work very well and that has been proven several times. This problem was caused by too much spending and debt and it won't be fixed by more spending and debt.
$800 billion of spending divided by 4 million jobs = $200,000 per job
Your logic is sort of flawed here: it might not be 200,000 per job, but even if that job is there for 4 years at 50,000 then you still make that back and if its a long term job for people awesome.
BUT:
1) Do we even have a need for it? I personally live in a place where our unemployement is less than 2% (if you are unemployed you choose to be). Move over here we have PLENTY of jobs open.
2) Is it MY responsibilty to create jobs when we already had a good number of jobs before? Will flooding the workplace with more jobs lowering the work standards? Honestly if companies are laying off... they can't afford the jobs, how does creating something else.. allow them to afford it any more?
3) Why not start rewarding for good behavior instead of bad? Hey you have been employeed for 5 years? Thats awesome, here is a 500 dollar bonus because you are responsible enough to have it. Didn't run your company into the ground, how about i give YOUR company 100 million dollars to improve obviously you have your shit together.
We are always funding the lower end of the spectrum instead of rewarding people doing good and get the people are not working hard who are not trying to look at that and say "I want to be like that guy"
