So throughout life we all make mistakes whether they are big or small, life altering or not. A couple of days ago a British news paper featured American Gold Medalist Michael Phelps taking a hit off of a "cannabis" water pipe. Come on the guy is only human why condone him for it? Even though he is portrayed as a role model and hero he is only human. He is like every other young person who is experimenting and wanting to have fun. Please don't get me wrong smoking marijuana is illegal and wrong, however it's a fact of life that people are going to do it. It just so happens that a poster boy for American athletes got caught in the act. Phelps has spent most of his adolescent life in the spot life, which I highly doubt is an easy thing to do. Instead of alienating Phelps why not support him in his mission to accept responsibility. He is still a great athlete and he represents what hard work and determination can do. We just need to give the guy a break. As Americans we should support Phelps who has helped enrich our country through his own hard work, just because we can support him doesn't mean we justify or excuse his behavior.
He is only Human

I totally agree.
We goldenize professional athletes and celebrities and make them beyond human. This is wrong on our parts, as the consumer, to believe in the idea that there are people who can do no wrong just because they are amazing at what they do.
Phelps is just like us.
