President George W. Bush made his last address to the nation today. It was a very quiet thirteen-minute speech where Bush tried to defend his hugely unpopular administration. He asserted, “There are things I would do differently if given the chance. Yet, I have always acted with the best interests of our country in mind. I have followed my conscience and done what I thought was right.” Finally he is admitting to his mistakes, but he later goes on to talk about all the other things he did to improve life and safety in America and abroad.
One thing that specifically stuck out in my mind was when he said he was victorious on the home front. He said people pay less in taxes and their children are learning more in school. This is a completely false notion. California is so far in debt right now that the government is thinking about cutting the school year by one week. This would save about one billion dollars. How does cutting school give Bush the right to say students are learning more? Learning more compared to what, cavemen?
Although I did not necessarily watch the speech on television, I read an article about it on LATimes.com. It is amazing the some of the bologna that comes out of President Bush’s mouth.

at least someone noticed. I won't even begin to go into all the reasons why just the small bit you posted is wrong, but yeah. he's gone. lets not dwell on the past.
Long before George Bush took office, funding education was understood to be a State or Local responsibility. The reason that schools in California suck is that the people of California have behaved in an extremely irresponsible manner and time and again elected the same incumbant politicians who refuse to reign in spending on everything but education.
When I went to college in California 30 years ago (back during the days when Republicans and Ronald Reagan ran the state), the schools there, from primary through secondary and including college were the pride of the nation. If they were not the best, they were very close. Now they rank something like 47th or 49th.
This is not George Bush's fault and your failure to understand this reflects your very inferior California education. The decline in the quality of schools in California began long before Bush took office and have nothing to do with him. Educating California children is the responsibility of California politicians and the people of California. In fact, if you check the record, Federal spending on education increased under George Bush to a level unprecedented under any President. As a small government conservative, I am very pissed off about it.
Here in Wyoming where I live our public schools are excellent and any child with a B average or better can go to college practically for free. Our voters and our state government take our responsibility to our children seriously. I don't want to be taxed further because the people of your state have behaved irresponsibly.
Quit blaming Bush and look in the mirror. Either you or your parents or your neighbors deserve the blame. In 30 short years California voters have transformed California schools from the best to the worst in the nation. I doubt they are going to improve under Obama unless California voters pull their heads out of their asses and start voting for responsible LOCAL and STATE polititcians.
Just as an exercise in improving your education, please cite the section of the USA Constitution that makes you think that taxpayers in Wyoming should be responsible for educating the children in California. You might learn something by reading that document.
