I’m sure everyone’s heard the phrase “big fish in a small pond,” but I don’t know if the phrase, “small fish in a big pond” is really a common one. That’s kind of how I feel sometimes. With the economy in the shape it is now, what can a single person do? In giant issues like world hunger, petroleum dependency, and greenhouse gases, how does one person even make a difference? I realize that much of history was changed by the efforts of a single person, (Martin Luther King, Jr and Adolf Hitler, just to name a couple) but they had backing. How does one person change the world?
Well, even if there was a way, how would I have time? I’m going to school and working two jobs. By the end of it, how are there even enough hours in the day?
What’s more is that it’s humbling and embarrassing to be friends with the people I am. (“Embarrassing” because my selfless efforts pall in comparison.) Here’s the latest from the situation room:

Being surrounded by such amazing people makes me feel lazy. I don’t think being another mindless drone, another cog in the system, is really going to bring about any amount of change. I suppose this is going to lead to another clause in my resolution – be more dedicated to serving others.

Your friends are amazing!
