I was listening to the radio today and heard a song called "Letters to the President" by the band Hawk Nelson. In the song, the lead singer says he wants to "...write a letter to the president/ and have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament..." This got me to thinking. Goodness knows it'd be no good to write a letter to Jr., seeing as he's got less than 20 days left in the oval office (not that he'd probably be able to read the letter anyway. We've seen him give speeches - the man is nearly illiterate.) But I would like to write a letter to Mr. Obama... I have a few things to say. If I were to write a letter, I think it would look something like this:
Dear Mr. Obama,
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on getting elected. I saw you when you came to Shawnee State University in Ohio. I can now see why they call you the best speaker since Martin Luther King, Jr. I found your speech to be empowering and inspiring, and had an incredibly positive feeling afterward. Further I was incredibly impressed with your viral campaign, using modern advertising techniques to inspire and enliven young voters. Because our current commander-in-chief has acquired such a poor approval rating, I will be glad to see such a majority of support for the head of state.
Secondly, there are a few items I would like to discuss about your time as the president of the United States. To begin with, let me remind you that we are already ten trillion dollars in debt. As Maryland governor Martin O'Malley said, "Let's face it, we're borrowing from our kids." I realize that now that I'm in the later years of my college education, I'm not exactly a "kid" anymore, but it is my future that we are talking about . Keep in mind that a debt must be paid back. Remember that while Iraq has now been deemed “stable” and more troops are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan, these soldiers are our family members and friends. 4221 of our brothers and sisters have died already in this war in Iraq.
Unfortunately, an onslaught of problems is being passed on to you from these last eight years. In addition to the enormous amount of debt we face, our economy has, especially in the last year, taken a turn for the worst. Unemployment has risen significantly, and that rate is bound to climb higher as we watch companies buckle under the weight of a faltering economy.
Mr. President Elect, I wish you well in the next four (or eight?) years. I pray that you will be the shining beacon of hope for our country, leading us out of these dark times, and into a future of prosperity and peace.
Sincerely,
Vision…In Converse Shoes

Why is the government, supposedly run by the people, responsible for change? We brought ourselves to this point - our apathy in the beginning brought us to this point.
