Thank You Good Sir

Last week, I was meeting my friend to help her with the last of her Christmas shopping and realized for the second or third time that day that my fuel gage was on empty. There was absolutely no way I was going to make it anywhere without getting gas. The only trouble was that I had absolutely no money, SERIOUSLY. I spent it all on Christmas presents and whatnot.

I pulled into the nearest gas station and began digging for spare change. I grabbed every last piece of change I could find and headed up to the cashier at the gas station. I was standing there for at least five minutes counting my change, when a middle-aged man walked up and purchased a pack of cigarettes. He looked at me frantically counting change and said, “I was just there. In fact, it was yesterday.” I embarrassingly replied, “Yeah, this Christmas shopping is really killing me.” Then, I hastily went back to counting my change. As the cashier handed the stranger his change, $3.25, and a pack of cigarettes, he said to me, “Here, keep the change. Merry Christmas,” then he walked away. I was fumbling with my change and barely even comprehended what he had just said. Once it finally processed, I tried to refuse but then thanked him with my whole heart. His $3.25 and my $6 in spare change added up to 100 miles of driving time. As I pulled away, the look of shock was still across my face.

Even though it is Christmas and people are supposed to be merry and jolly, I never expected a total stranger to help me from out of nowhere. I was utterly surprised by the kindness of this man that I had never met before. I guess it goes to show that there really are people out there that care. Some may say that this man only did it because it was the holiday season and because people are supposed to be caring during this time of year. But, I like to think that this man did it out of the kindness of his heart. Thank you so much kind sir, I am truly grateful.
