As you guys probably know already, I'm pro-choice. I think abortion is disgusting and should be discouraged, certainly. But to ban it all together is counter-productive to the pro-life goal: more women would die due to anti-abortion laws because of abortions being done by unqualified doctors, increasing deaths among both fetuses AND women alike. You've probably heard that argument a million times over, but that's not what I'm here to discuss.
No, I found something that surprised even me, an ardent pro-choicer who thought she'd done significant research into this. Browsing through a pro-FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act) group on Facebook, I found a link to a Youtube video that shocked me. Apparently, anti-abortion laws in Colorado and South Dakota as well as a few other states have killed women because of forced C-sections. Women have been arrested on murder charges because their child was stillborn. Why? The law says that their fetus's life is more important than their own.
In the first case mentioned, a woman in Pennsylvania got the custody rights of her unborn child taken away by a court order. The fetus was apparently "too big," and she was forced into a C-section. Another, 25 weeks pregnant and critically ill, was forced into having a C-section without her consent, and DIED.
Why are fetuses considered more important than the women who carry them? Why does this exist to the point of women dying and getting incarcerated over incidences that were not their fault?

Wow that is the most bassackwards thing I have every heard. I really would like to know more about what these laws and reason behind these rulings really are. For the sake of the arguement, before I look at anything else, she might have died either way.

This woman on the video linked below talks about the exact oposite thing happening. How do you think we can make each way illegal without infringing on EVERY body's right.
To me I can not see the answer because both ways are wrong to me.

Erm... Amendment 48 FAILED miserably in Colorado. There hasn't been an anti-abortion law here. And the strict ones in South Dakota also have failed in the past two elections. You might want to check on those laws before you go and claim that they're killing women.

I live on the other side of the country, so I missed that memo, I guess. I say it's definitely a good thing that it failed, but the point of this was more general as opposed to these specific proposals. Anti-abortion laws in general harm more than just women who want abortions.

I must say only this.
I believe that every women should have her own say.. no government or citizens should have any kind of right to decide on these matters.
I take this to mean every woman has her own choice to make not the government, family, or other citizens except...
If the female is a minor (like 12 years old), The female is mentally handicapped passed the point of consent and probably a few other instances that escape me right now.
The woman has the right to choose but what if the man wants to keep the baby but the woman does not because she is unable to care emotionally or financially for the new child... Why does he not have a say?
