Some folks are choosing simple funerals with low funeral cost these days,.Green burials and lower cost funerals are growing fast because of difficult economic times. Funeral directors in Great Britain and the US are seeing Folks go into their graves with cell phones in their pockets and IPods in their ears.
In Brooklyn N.Y., funeral homes are losing money because many families cannot afford what they have to pay to bury their relatives.( http://thebrooklynink.com/?p=1509).
According to an acquaintance Pam Vetter, a funeral celebrant:
"I've seen family members place iPod earphones on the decedent and play songs as the casket closed," "It's comforting to the family to think mom's playing her iPod or dad's still got the cell phone that was attached to his ear all the time. It's comforting to think those things are still with them."
By keeping the cell phone on, Friends Relatives and others can call into the grave. Maybe it is reminiscent of the ancient Pharaohs or simple defiance of you cannot take it with you.
While the economic downturn has not affected the death rate, many families all over the US are saving $4,000+ on their funerals by choosing cremation. Cremation costs in the United States range from $425 to $2900.00 USD.
Folks are shopping around online for the lowest prices and ringing the cell phones of the deceased while their loved ones are in the grave, or on the way down.(http://www.dvorak.org/blog/2008/12/18/bury-me-with-my-ipod-please-cell-p...)
Now it used to be that you only heard a cell phone ring at a funeral when someone left it on. Now you hear a cell phone ring and a favorite song played as part of the ceremony, as you go down into the grave.
Please do not call me when I am in the grave, I will not call forward to God. In fact you will hear a message saying " I cannot take your call right now, I'm dead." I will be listening to my I Pod Shuffle.

There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic.~- Anais Nin
