I wrote this on paper a while ago, and lost it. Oh well, I still know what I need to say.
When I started blogging on ProU I had my own ideas about what "progressive blogging" was. I thought it was supposed to be political. My first blogs were pretty weak, because I don't have a lot of specific information regarding politics. In life I just process what I encounter, which is in no way a complete picture.
I got sucked into a few abortion blogs right away, along with a God debate. Those were fun, but I quickly learned that there was more to ProU. Sawaboof's blog, "Thrice to Slay to Slain," said it all to me.
One day I happened onto a blog by a most beautiful and courageous young woman who was so open about her pain and struggles. Then I learned she passed away. That did it for me. I had to start being that brave. I had to open up. Ever since then I have received nothing but support from everyone at ProU. I have discovered that I can handle having my ass bared to the world, so to speak.
So I also started to reach out. My blogs about religion started out shaky, but people like mvenus929 really took time to help me to develop those. Some people were a little confused about why it was such a recurrent theme. Well, aside from the fact that all of those were also forum posts on my online religious studies class, the main reason I brought them to ProU was to reach out and find people who were interested in dialoguing from different faiths.
I have said that I am considering pursuing a career in politics. Islam is a great mystery to me and I wanted to learn about it. I was hoping to find someone who could share from a personal point of view. I kept being disappointed. Then one day whispers awnesty mentions asmaw, a Muslim woman who shared a lot about her religion on ProU. I looked up her blog, and saw her last post was a year ago. I was disappointed again.
The very next day I saw her name on the who's online list. I jumped on her and pm'd her. Now I feel I have made a friend for life who can share her own view from a world that is strange and alien to me.
ProU is amazing. I am really glad that someone or some people chose to start such a site. When I think about these small things that have happened for me in my life, I am tempted to think about the possibilities that could occur if people keep connecting and working together for progress.
My blog about the $20,000 scholarship was another one that got me thinking. I never entered that competition because ProU was more important to me. However, realizing that one essay could impact the world like that inspired me. With friends we can do even more. I hope someone from ProU did compete, and I really hope they won. I also hope that everyone who might have entered that contest will post their essay here so we can see it.
Anyway, this idea of Global progress brought to me and you by ProU is slipping from the grasp of my keyboard. As the contest comes to a close, I just want to thank ProU and everyone here, as well as those who were and haven't come back in awhile.
Reading blogs of those who aren't here anymore is a wonderful experience, and I guess the dead time in between contests will give me a chance to catch up a bit. I have a lot to read by asmaw especially.
If you leave, don't forget to come back once in awhile, even if it is years later. You never know who might be needing you.

Beautiful post, yet again. : ) I have really enjoyed getting to know you and reading your posts, so please keep going. You have such an incredible and inspiring story. Good luck with your major. : ) I'm planning on majoring in political science at Christendom. : ) Maybe we can swap opinions next year once I'm there. : ) Thanks so much for everything, turtlesuds!

You are too kind, I deserve nothing other than all you and others here have already given me. This good can not be matched by any monetary value that we place on it, so just keep shining and smiling. that is what I need to remember to do everyday.

Hey, no need to leave with the contest.
And if you think that your blogs were shaky, well, lets just say there's a reason I tend to stick to commenting.

post a blog now after your finals are finished...if you wish to, of course.

I tend to stick to comments because I don't think I'm very good at writing blogs.

clicked backspace and it's gone...so this is what you get instead and it pretty much sums it up :yada: excuses, excuses ;)

Use Firefox, it saves what you right. I don't think not doing something I'm not good at is making excuses.

or is it that gut feeling that most humans, inlcuding myself at times, live by?
thanks for the firefox advice, I'm being stubborn in not downloading it and sticking to XP, so I deserve the lost comments (T_T)

I have not been told that I suck, but I think that it is not dishonest to dislike most of my blogs. I liked my Atheist Commentary blogs that I did a while back.... Maybe I'll pick em up again now that I'm on break.
More blasphemies a blog or your money back.
Firefox is awesome. You have to download it. You can get all kinds of cool stuff, and it has spellcheck so it actually seems like I can spell.

Glad I could help :)
ProU changed me as well, and some of the friends I made on here have helped me through some rather difficult times. We're just one big family, it seems. That's why I've managed to stay active here for over two years :)
