Community Service - a duty, an obligation, a choice, a honor, a responsibility, or a personal definition

Community service has always been a part of what we were taught as an act that must be a part of our lives as students, citizens and as adults. As a consequence, I had the opportunity to volunteer my time and talents to participate in many community service events such as Say No To Drugs, Stop the Violence, Habitat for Humanity, Cease Fire, working with the local booster club at my high school for nearly 8 years, volunteering for my local high school for 8 years working as a mentor and leader for high school students, serving with a mayoral campaign that made history, volunteering for my church to provide services for my community, and serving within an organization that worked closely with adults transitioning back into the workforce or seeking employment. I enjoyed volunteering and working with people because you learn as much from the person that you serve as you do with giving them the knowledge and time that you offer. Giving back to your community or any community is a service that is priceless and invaluable. I wonder if people see community service as a duty, public service, personal choice, an honor, an obligation, and a responsibility, with a specific definition or with hopes that they will be recognized. How do you see community service?
