Imagine a Hallway

Below is an essay I wrote for a scholarship...

Imagine a hallway crowded with people and the nervous chattering of students trying to get accustomed to the new life on a college campus. I am looking forward to that first day of college, no matter how nerve racking and terrifying it may be. These are the years that will dramatically shape my life and define my future. College will not only help me scholastically, but also with everyday life.

Spending at least four years at college learning about myself, my peers, and the world around me will further my education immensely. My classes and the students and professors that I will interact with will get me ready for life after college. Attending college will allow me to interact with many kinds of people with different beliefs, cultures, and ideas. With the knowledge that there are different ways of life, I will be prepared to skillfully interact with people when I am thrust into the “real world.” College is the place in which I will learn some of the most important life lessons.

I live in a world today that is very different from my parents. In my generation, if I want to be successful in life I need at least a four-year degree. A solid education is the foundation that will build a good and stable life. There are so many opportunities for me to go to college; I want to make the most of them. I am currently using financial aid, grants, and scholarships tactics to get myself an education that I can be proud of. I want to graduate college and be able to use the education that I earn to make a good life for myself.

My father was a bright student, he always did his work and tried his hardest, but his parents never encouraged him to apply to a four-year college. He graduated from high school and attended the junior college right down the street from where he grew up and received an Associate’s Degree in business. He wishes that he got the full college experience- leaving home, living in the dorms, experiencing life away from family, and having the chance to learn about the world in an entirely new perspective. My dad wants the best for me. He wants to give me opportunities that he was not able to experience himself. I am thankful for my dad, he pushes me to strive for more, he makes me want to succeed and create a wonderful life. I want to attend college to make my family proud and to show them that I can make a difference and accomplish something.

College is the number one priority on my list. Secondary education is necessary for success; it will prepare me for the future and the role I will play in the world. College is the time in my life when I will grow up and mature to be the person that I will become in the future.

I have two questions:

WHat was the scholarship prompt?

What is your role in the world going to be? How will college help with this?

Hmm I guess that is technically three questions. Nicely written blog.

Love is like a box of chocolates; if you chose wisely you won’t be disappointed and have to spit it out. ~T
