2009 Approaching

The year 2008 is coming to a close in less than 2 momths...time to start thinking about...NEW YEAR'S RESOULUTIONS!

A few have been bouncing around in my head....in 2008 I my New Year's resoulution was not to have one...and ta da...so far so goo. Although this year I am planning on trying to keep a NYR (new year's resoulution..its such a long word to type). I'll try to stay devoted to it. If it only lasts me until half of the year, i'll call it my half-NYR, and then create more.

NYR's are basic goals that you set for yourself in the coming year. I'd call them short term goals. Long term goals to me are like 3-5 years. Most people give up on their NYR's saying that they are to much work and would rather do something else other than what was on the orginal list.

I like giving advice, so that's what I'll do..
I also like putting things in numbers so i'll do that too...

1) Make your goals acheiveable...Don't set a goal to lose 100 pounds, chances are it'll be to hard for you to get that far to make your goal or NYR, say I'd like to lose ___ pounds, thats_____ per month, that is ____ per week. And in order to achieve this I must _____ , ____, and, _____. Having a format makes it look like it's more achievable. And when I achieve this goal I will_________.

2) Write them out, don't just say it... Chances are you'll forget what you said at your New Year's Party if you had a few glasses of the "stuff"...If you write them down you are able to remember it more. Also you can copy it and place it around your home, and carrying it with you.,,When you see it more often you are more likelt to remember. I put mine on the back of my bedroom door, you could also try the fridge, in your wallet, next to a mirror you look in daily, dashboard of your car, desk, computer,...the list could go on...the point it to put it in a place where you can see it.

3) Go for the old quality not quantity. If you have too many goals, chances are you won't accomplish many or even any at all..I'd say do 3-5 goals that can be attainable in any way shape or form

4) Keep yourself motivated..Give yourself small rewards, when you get to sertain points. Maybe you are trying to spend less money...what you can do to reward yourself along the way is by checking your budget to make sure you are following your goals...look on the computer for free things to do, whether it be a museum free day, or a day where you go to the park and have a picnic lunch of food that you bought on a budget...volunteer at a local soup kitchen/homeless shelter...if possible use public transportation ...it may save you on gas money!

5) Enjoy your NYR's, don't make them something you hate...this is something that you will have to live with, chances are if you don't make them enjoyable they probably won't get accomplished...you'll just keep wondering..

6) if it isn't for you it's okay to modify your goal to suit your needs....say you would like to read through the entire encyclopedia but you have 3 small children who need your undivided attention everyday...you won't find the time to make it through your goal...instead of saying I'd like read all volumes of the encylocpedia, say or try this..I'd like to read through volume A and halfway through B, and one of the little ones, your goal will seem more attainable and not such a long shot.

And my NYRs are..........

My NYR hardly last for a month...you know sometimes life just happens. For 2009 I'm honestly anxious to graduate from high school. And when I start college my plan is simple: NO PROCRASTINATION. Do my assignments on time with little or no stress.

Thanks for the tips. I find NYRs difficult to mantain becuase the goals are something that my heart is not really into . But what others expect me to do in the future.

try figuring out what you really want to do. make sure those voices in you head are your own.

I already did my new year's resolutions... starting September 29th. I made 101 resolutions to do in 1001 days (which is about 2.75 years, 33 months, 143 weeks). Some of them are fairly easy to do, and others are a little more complicated. Either way, I think having so many goals and small stepping stones to achieve them is the way to go. In the past two months, I've completed about 6% of my list (by the way... I'd love it if someone would start their own 101 list, so I can cross off another goal on mine ;)).
