High School's Not Forever

When I was getting ready to start my first year of high school, I was super excited. I had heard all these great things like, “You’re going to make so many new friends. You will have so much freedom. There are so many ways to get involved and meet people.” I actually believed them. I walked on campus my first day of school feeling like this was going to be a turning point in my life, and it was suddenly going to get so much better. Well, let’s just say it didn’t turn out exactly like that.

First, for some crazy high school moments that I’m sure I will laugh about later (they actually do get funnier as the time rolls on). I was walking to class on the first day of school, and a punk guy with long, orange, curly hair actually growled at me. I was caught so off guard, it nearly scared me half to death. On another wonderful day in high school I happened to be walking to the gym and out of nowhere came a basketball. It hit me right in the side of the head. It was so embarrassing. Finally on a different day, I was eating my lunch in the middle of the quad when this random chick came up to me and just grabbed a handful of my chips. I was so stunned I couldn’t even say anything. She even had the nerve to come back to me and ask for some more.

Sure you could say that high school is a lot bigger than junior high, so you have a much greater possibility of making new friends. But in reality, that just means the cliques are bigger and more powerful. They overtake the school. Some people also told me clubs are a great way to meet new people. But high school students don’t join clubs to meet people; they join them to hang out with their already existing friends. High school is like junior high, but with ten times the drama. Also, there is pretty much no way to have full control of both an academics and a social life. They do not come hand in hand at all. Sadly, you’re cool…or you’re not. I bet you can guess which one I was.

Let’s just put it this way, I had senioritis my junior year. I work my butt off in high school so I can graduate and get out. When I finally get my diploma, I will know that high school is just a distant memory. Some have more fun in high school than others (that’s good for them). I definitely had some good times in high school, but I had some rocky ones as well. I am told that college is so much better than high school, so I guess I am just going to have to wait and see.

hmm. Thoses instances are absolutely silly. some people i guess haven't crawled out of their diapers yet.

i think college will be much better, but that is all i have to hold on to.

I was so anxious to go to high school after my junior high school graduation. I was told high school was going to be so much fun like it never had a dull moment. When in fact there were a lot of dull moments with a lot of great ones as well. I'm a senior in high school and now I'm so anxious to graduate to see what the college life is like. I hear you get what you put in so. We'll just have to wait and see for ourselves.
