I recently described the fact that I see a very disturbing trend toward hysteria in politics. However, there are varying degrees of disgust one might feel toward partisans. However, I cannot think of anything more putrid than the following idea: actually giving credit to the “debate” about whether or not our next president is the Anti-Christ.
“There's no Biblical reason I can find that would absolutely disqualify him,” Jack Kelley writes of Obama. Kelley is a blogger for Raptureready.com, a extremely right wing Christian website. Other Raptureready bloggers claim Obama to be an “Islamic Messiah,” and accuse him of having friends who “hate Israel.” they are not alone in their worries that President-elect Obama might signal the end times. Snopes.com had to publish an article disproving the claims made in many of the emails sent to them “proving” that Obama is evil incarnate. Newsweek just published an article titled “Is Obama the Antichrist?” A Google search for “Obama” and “Antichrist” receives 1,030,000 hits. In comparison, a similar search for “George Bush” and Antichrist” receives 208,000 hits.
I must at this point ask the question: why are so many people so easily convinced that our nation just elected the antichrist? What cultural factors would lead to someone reaching that conclusion? Is it his charisma? No one asked if Ronald Reagan was secretly evil. Is it his heritage? Perhaps a better question: is there a charge we can use against a political opponent in today’s society which goes to far?

Does it really even matter? I mean, if it really is the end times, and the world as we know it is ending, it's not like anyone's going to be around after to care...
On a more positive note, if the world ends, I don't have to listen to people bitch about Obama like it's going out of style. :P

As long as someone lets me know WHEN to have my Doomsday party, I'm good. He can be the Anti-Christ all he wants. I just hope he announces the end so I have time to pick up matching tableware for the shin dig.

End of the world hysteria is ridiculous. It goes against Christian doctrine (the New Testament instructs believers not to guess when the End Times wil begin) and it's a great way to work well meaning people into a panic
but that's a subject for another blog all together.

I agree. I think that the association with Obama and the anti-christ is rooted somewhere in the cross between religious fanaticism and prejudice. Obama isn't Muslim and even if he was that doesn't mean he's going to bring about the end of the world. The votes are in and the nation has clearly spoken; Obama is the next president. Now all that's left to quesition is whethter or not he'll live up to the change that he proclaimed he would bring about.
What you didn't know? Obama is the Antichrist.
so prepare yourself. confess all of your sins and give yourself to God.
if not you will risk buring in flames in hell forever............
may God be with you!!!

Obama is not the Antichrist. I'm sure he'll be able to prove that after a couple years in office.
I find people calling Obama Muslim to be contradictory, since they are the same people who criticized him for attending a racist church.
You made an interesting and disturbing point that people are calling Obama the Antichrist because of his heritage. If that's not prejudice, nothing is.
Every generation believes that it will be the last; that the End of Days is upon them. Perhaps the Antichrist hysteria is just a side effect of this.
OK, I can't stand Obama period. However, I think that all this talk about him being the anti-Christ is a bunch of bs. After all, anything that goes against Christ becomes an anti-Christ. Finally, if you want to name a specific person as the anti-Christ, it would probably be Mohammad, since he took so many people away from Christianity.

if there will be a true "antichrist" I don't think we've met him yet.
And the Muslims I know would strongly disagree with your conclusion. As would alot of Christians.

But is there an anti-Christ? In the way people seem to think, I mean?
Well, I know, but if the anti-Christ is supposed to hurt Christianity, then at this point, the single most destructive person for Christianity was Mohammad. I'm not saying he was the anti-Christ, but he was a major force and we've survived through him.
