Anatomy of a road trip

Tagged:  •    •

Over my experiences on the road, dear reader, I have learned that there are several things (besides the obvious vehicle, gas, etc.,) that one requires for a fantastic road trip.
The first thing: A catchword or phrase. The one word or phrase that symbolizes the entire trip. The one you repeat while on the road and the one that calls up memories of that time and place. For example, the first time that I went to Europe, I had the song “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) by Offspring was in my head, and I only sang two of the lines: “Give it to me baby” “Uh huh, Uh huh.”
By the time my friend and I got to Vienna, about halfway through the trip, we were both singing it – sort of a call and response thing. Perhaps it was a little inappropriate, but to sing it now still makes me laugh and still brings up memories.
The second thing: The sun or friendly weather. Unless, of course, it is winter, in which case cloudy weather is okay, even normal. However, good sunny weather, weather you can open the windows to, when you can put your feet out the window, the air through the window blowing all of our hair around.

What else do you think belongs in a road trip, dear reader? I want to know what habits or traditions you enjoy!

I usually take good notes on what type of toliets and bathrooms foreign countries use.
i think you can tell a lot about a country's value through its public restrooms.

Excellent thought! I remember using a public restroom in a park in London, and it was SOO clean! I was so suprised! That is a great way to learn about the "native peoples!" Thanks for writing!

I never make plans. The most planning I ever do is think of places I want to go, activities I want to do sooner or later. I always have more fun without an agenda and meet the most amazing people. Last roadtrip I went on, I brought my laptop and found places to sleep and people to hang out with via the couchsurfing website(which is pretty easy if you are a solo traveler).

I am totally another Couchsurfer! I surfed my way all around London this summer!
Great to "meet" you! Let me know if you're coming through St. louis!
