Very strangely I was getting ready to write this blog when I saw http://progressiveu.org/blog/50450-poverty-rwanda-needs-govmt-reform-fun....

I commented, and Mai pm'd me and said she'd be up for a group project. I know it seems weird, but I had a thought while working on this essay that it is such a big problem, and it requires more areas of expertise than I have in my own little brain. So I thought, "What if I ask progressiveUers for help?" We could collectively work something out that would probably have a better chance of winning, and make a difference, if we put our brains together. If we win, as a group we could divide the money, or we could donate a portion to ProgressiveU. We could actually create our own little organization that would use collective brain power to solve any number of problems.

I know it seems strange. Why would I want to share my ideas so others could steal them? Why would I let you all in on such a big scholarship tip? I am only increasing my competition. That's why I don't want to post my actual thoughts yet. If I get some response to this, and anyone out there is willing, then I will share my thoughts.

I will go ahead and take the risk of increasing my competition by letting you all in on an amazing scholarship opportunity, in case you weren't already aware of it.

This scholarship is for an essay that will present recommended policies to the president of Rwanda that will work to solve the problem of poverty in his nation. The winning essay will actually be presented to President Paul Kagame himself.

Even if you don't compete, or want to work collaboratively, this is the most exciting essay challenge I have come across.

thanks for the heads up about the scholaship. and don't worry about the competition. ( I would be undergraduate)
i think this essay challenge is very interesting, exciting, and really beneficial for everyone. I also think working together for new ideas would help everyone entering in the contest.
thanks agian for sharing the website.

This sounds interesting. I would love to collaborate, if you're interested. Other wise, let me introduce your competition. Thank you so much for the heads up on such a substantial scholarship.

No matter what, I hope this blog will make people really think. The videos and articles on this website blew my mind!

How is the money awarded? Does the winner actually get a check for $20,000 or is the money given directly to the winner's school and applied to tuition and fees? And is it given all at once, or half one semester and half another? It sounds like a good opportunity for scholarship money, for those interested, but I just want to make sure splitting the funds is actually feasible.

You just burst my bubble. The scholarship prize is to be paid directly to the winning student's learning institution.

There are 2 levels though! One for graduate, and one for undergraduate! Guess I've just increased my competition! May the best man/woman win!

And if you win, you better share your essay with us after the fact! That would be an amazing learning experience!

But groups of people can work on the same essay, and the prize can be split. i just don't believe that ProgressiveU could share in the profits.

You may decide to submit an essay together with another student, but the prize money is per essay, not per student. The two (or more) of you would share the prize."

I'm learning a bit about small, but efficiently scaled agriculture, which no doubt benefits a local economy. Does that qualify me or do you already have some creative collabatuers?
