Abortion is FUN???

The other day I was looking at pro-life/pro-choice pictures via Google Image for my FOCA Blog post. While searching, I came across a picture of people with a sign that said "Keep Abortion Safe, Legal and Fun". Unfortunately, the link didn't work, so I saved it through my computer and uploaded it through Photobucket. Now I don't care WHO you are, but I don't know how anyone could possibly think that abortion is fun.

Abortion is a horrible procedure that women use as a last resort to fix their problems. If you view it from a pro-life point of view, it kills innocent human life and leaves women scarred for the rest of their lives. From a pro-choice standpoint, it is women exerting their rights, but not something they enjoy doing. No matter who you are though, abortion is not something you go out and do for fun. Who wakes up in the morning, smiles, and says "I'm going to go have an abortion today."? (The answer is no one in their right mind)

According to Planned Parenthood's website, an abortion can cost up to $900 (for a first trimester abortion! Second trimesters cost even more!). The same site describes an abortion, and includes information about the aftermaths of an abortion. Some of the aftermaths include heavy bleeding and infections. Finally, it states that in some cases, abortions are fatal. (And how many women wake up bubbling with joy over the idea of going through a possibly fatal procedure?)

Abortion is not something women enjoy. Often times, they commit abortions because they are desperate. For example, one New Zealand woman committed an abortion because her husband threatened to leave her. Women who have had abortions deal with unendurable consequences. Some statistics even state that teenage girls are 10 times more likely to commit suicide if they have had an abortion in the last six months. Therefore, abortion is about more than women's rights...it's about hurting human beings with emotions who have to deal with real consequences of real life procedures.

Thus, I cannot understand people who think like this:

I think my view on abortion is pretty well known, but you're right, the line has to be drawn somewhere.

That's just disgusting.

Some people just have no idea how stupid they are. I would really like to know what their idea of FUN.

Well, apparently, abortion is their idea of fun, as ridiculous as that seems.

BTW, I love the first line. That's great. : P

I don't think anyone who's had an abortion would ever wear a shirt like that. I think people who wear/say stuff like that are pro choice and fiercely believe in that cause. But they forget that while they may be pro choice, there are women who have actually had to go through that procedure and feel differently about it.

I seem to be having trouble putting my thoughts into word.

I would hope not. I think you put your thoughts together well. I get what you're saying. The pro-choice movement (in this instance) forgets the cause of their cause and strives to glorify abortion because it's "a women's right to choose". However, what they forget is that it's a great deal more than that.

that one word describes everything I feel about people who hold those views

Are people just trying to be funny?

that is absolutely sick.

such a statement loses credibility fast.

I really, really hope so...it's very sick and I don't know how people can even begin to think like that.
