I remembered something funny that I saw on a Gaia forum some time back. It was in the, now deceased, Abortion Debate thread, someone had been going on about how different cultures treat pregnant teens. The comment went along the lines of how black people praise young black girls who get pregnant.
I nearly spat my drink out on my screen.
Maybe I'm living in the wrong part of reality, but I've rarely seen such an occurence. Then again, I made the silly assumption that he was talking about America and that my experience = everyone's experience and blah blah blah. Anyways, I still found it quite... ludicrous. As a young black female, I know that the community I've grown up in would lose their heads if I was pregnant.
Perhaps he was talking about an African community, I dunno.
In any case, the comment came clear out of left field to me. It was a wild assumption of the black community at large and I was sorely disappointed to not hear his views on asian and indian culture. I guess that just goes to show that the internet is a vast ocean of funny and generalizations.
This was a scatter-brained blog T_T I'm sorry.

Now I also wonder what culture he was referring to... It was possibly a somewhat snide racist comment or a potentially true comment about cultures far far away.
In a couple of the classes I've taken, we've discussed marriage and child-bearing culture norms. I do remember that some cultures have arranged marriages very early on, but the couple doesn't even live together for several years. That has nothing to do with anything. I just found that interesting. If they weren't all such early in the morning classes, I would take a lot more world-wide sociology and anthropology classes.... Continuing with the scatter-brained theme...
