Amazing women in history

Amelia Earhart

On July 2, 1937 Amelia Earhart, accompanied by Fred Noonan, disappears over the Pacific Ocean. She was attempting to be the first to fly nonstop around the world. She was flying a plane called “Electra” with twin engines and a Lockhead model 10E with added fuel tanks. On March 17, 1937 Amelia Earhart took off from Oakland, CA. the first round went perfect she landed in Hawaii and refueled and took off again. The second round however, the wing of her plane tore off and she had to end her mission and fix her plane. In May of 1037 the plane took off on a second mission. They flew west to east this time and once again the first round was faultless. On July 2 at 7:42 the ship, “Itasca” that was following Earhart, picked up a message from their plane saying they were low on fuel. Two more messages were received one was 45 minutes after the plane should have ran out of fuel.

Many believe that Amelia Earhart was a spy for the government and that she was captured by the Japanese and killed. Some also believe that she returned to the U.S. and was given a new identity of Irene Boldom. However, they did not take into consideration that the two theories may possible be connected since all major evidence mysteriously disappeared it is impossible to really know what happened. A Japanese news paper said that the Japanese Navy had gone and taken Earhart’s plane out of the ocean and kept her and Noonan as prisoners of war. There is much evidence that supports the Japanese taking her prisoner. Many claimed to have talked to a woman in a prison cell near by who claimed she was a pilot. Also, a man said she told him she was a pilot and a spy.

A young woman claimed when she was 11 years old, she witnessed a plane crash and saw a man and a woman being taken prisoner. A man, named Thomas Devine, overheard a conversation between two navy men one say they had Amelia Earhart’s plane in a nearby hanger. Devine investigated the hanger and found the “Electra” plane with the serial number NR16020, the same as Earhart’s plane. The plane was later discovered missing in a fire. An “Electra” generator and a briefcase with files on Amelia Earhart were found by the supposed hanger, by Robert Wallack. When Wallack gave the papers to his superior officer he never saw or heard about them again.

Why did all the important evidence show up missing after it was discovered? The government tried to hide important evidence on Amelia Earhart’s disappearance. They made a few minor errors and later fixed them; but, they made it all too suspicious. A lady by the name of Irene Boldom was accused of being Earhart. Many thought they look a lot a like. An author even published a book saying she was Amelia Earhart. She had sued him for it and refused to give finger prints to prove that she wasn’t Earhart, she later dropped the law suit. I believe the government gave Amelia Earhart a new identity to hide who she really was so that she could live a normal life. Boldom would not give any proof that she really was not Earhart. She left in her will that she was not to be finger printed or had any DNA scans done on her. Later though, a forensic photographer was able to use photos to show how similar these two looked. He said they were so similar even their tear ducts were the same.

Why did the government hide information from the world on Amelia Earhart? What happened to the missing evidence, even though it was found by other people? We are not able to say exactly what happened to Amelia Earhart and there are many good theories. Perhaps that is why the government hid all evidence that would tell us what happened to her, so that we would wonder about it years later. There is a rumor that Amelia Earhart and President Roosevelt were close friends. Maybe she wanted to be remembered always so her good friend Roosevelt mad that so. We will never know what happened to Amelia Earhart or Noonan on there flight across the world.

There are millions of conspiracy theories about anything from UFOs and the murder of JFK to the disappearance of Amelia Earhart and the possibility that Elvis is still alive. Anyone can say they know something or have seen something. Much like my view on religion, I need reliable proof of it all.

You are right though. Regardless of what happened to Amelia Earhart, she was a pioneer for women.
