Illegal Immigration and thing you don't know

So I was tired of arguing with people about illegal immigrants with things I knew were true; but, I didn't know the exact numbers that they wanted to know.

The fact that illegal immigrants pay taxes is so unbelieveable that people don't want to even hear it. Politians tell us all the time that they just milk our country and don't do anything. This is not true: in 1996 IRS ( Internal Revenue Service) start giving special codes to illegals so that they can legally pay taxes. This number allows them to pay taxes and get houses. They give out more than 1.5 million numbers a year to illegals. Since IRS is not a federal government agency they do not keep track of the number of undocumented workers that get one of these number. Plus not everyone who gets a number is illegal. By law the IRS can not share any information on the people that recieve these nine digit numbers. It is reported that between 8 and 12 million illegals have a number to file taxes. Every year the amount of money recieved from them increases by 50 thousand dollars. They also pay $80 thousand more than they consume in one year. SInce welfare only qualifies for U.S. citizens they do not recieve any of this. They provide 10 percent of social security money comes from them and the only thing they can recieve is emergancy medical care and education grade K through 12. In 2001 they paid almost 305 million dollars in taxes. Plus banks accept these numbers from people who want to open a bank account. According to cnn illegals contributed 428 billions dollars to the economy in 2006 and the numbers increase every year. There are bwtween 12 and twenty million undocumented works here in the U.S. meaning more than 60 percent of Illegals pay taxes.

Here are some links that refute most of what you say.

The High Cost of Cheap Labor

The Costs to Local Taxpayers for Illegal or "Guest" Workers

The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Immigrants to the U.S. Taxpayer

Your repeated assertions that illegal immigrants are somehow a boon for our economy don't make sense. They do not pass the smell test. They are completely unbelievable.

Poor people, even those who work hard, are net consumers of tax dollars. They pay very little taxes and they consume services in excess of those taxes. Illegal immigrants are no different. That is the whole point of the progressive tax sytem coupled with our social welfare state.

The only people who benefit from illegal immigration are the employers that make fat profits by hiring them at exploitive below market wages and the illegal immigrants themselves. Everybody else pays. The middleclass gets taxed to support them and the poor see their wages depressed, have to compete with them for jobs and housing, and have to watch their kid's educations suffer as their schools are overwhelmed by ESL students.

You post these ridiculous so-called "facts" over and over and you never post any links so that we can judge the quality of your sources of information. I've been following this illegal immigration debate for decades. Most of what you are saying is only half true at best. For example, do you really expect us to believe your assertion above that 10% of Social Security comes from illegal aliens? They make up way less than 10% of our workforce. And they are at the bottom end of wage earners. Social Security is based on a percentage of wages. How could less than 10% of the workforce that earns well below the medium wage pay in 10% of Social Security? I think you pulled that statistic like so many of the others that I have challenged in the past couple of days out of your butt! Post a link so we can see the sources of your dubious research.

Post the link that says illegals pay 10% of Social Security.

I'll refute it with facts right from the Social Security Administration. You keep throwing out unbelieveable numbers with no support.

You may have 15 links but they are feeding you garbage because your statistics are obviously wrong and anybody with the slightest reasoning ability can figure it out just by thinking without even doing any research.

How does less than 5% of the workforce that earns very low wages pay 10% of Social Security?

Most illegals get jobs through family or even the ones who work out in the fields get 10 dollars an hour the fact that illegals get paid less is a myth because there are several out there who get paid more. and i posted the website above.

The majority of my information I have gotten from news papers and news websites and political websites so I'd love to know how I'm being fed garbage

I assume you are basing your opinion about illegal immigration based on facts that you think you know.

When you say illegals pay 10% of our social security or as you said in another thread pay $50 billion into social security you are either making this stuff up or you are getting it from somewhere and you are being fed garbage.

I said that every year they increase 50 milion dollars every into social security

very interesting article. i would have never imagined that illegal aliens would willingly choose to pay taxes through fack s.s. numbers. this gives me a different outlook on illegal aliens.

I know I was the same way till I met my bestfriend and they are also willing to fight in oure military.

scraps of former sanity's picture

Some people's lack of sympathy disgusts me. Those people go through so much in Mexico that no America would ever want to go through. I think the easiest solution to this would be to set up a new Ellis Island of sorts at the border that would make gaining citizenship easier.

Do read my post fully. Not only does it help you understand my point instead of making rash statements, but it also gives me some semblance of faith that people can read and understand an argument.

I think its about taking the time to get to know people and hear there stories. It amazing what you can learn through personal stories. It adds more heart and I think the process of coming here legally should be easier not necesarily becoming a citizen easier because that is actually somewhat easy

This blog needs some citations to be believeable.

There are some true things in it like that about 2/3rds of illegal aliens are subject to Social Security Withholding and Medicare Withholding. The reason this happens is that in order to get a job they have to present a Social Security Card. The number on this card is either made up (use of a fraudulent card is a felony) or stolen (identity theft is a felony). Anybody who has ever had their identity stolen knows that it is anything but a victimless crime. It takes years to straighten out the mess and restore good credit.

The notion that not allowing them to collect money they paid while committing felonies is somehow unAmerican is laughable.

The assertion that illegal aliens contribute $50 billion to Social Security annually is complete misinformation. There are about 12 million illegal aliens in America and maybe 9 million work and only (using your own figures) 2/3rds of those pay Social Security or 6 million. If 6 million illegal aliens were contributing $50 billion to Social Security that would be over $8000 each. Social Security withholding is about 7% of wages so in order to pay $8000 an illegal alien would have to have wages of around $115,000. That is just a laughably bogus number. I have watched the illegal alien issue for years and the highest supportable claim I have ever seen for illegal aliens contribution to Social Security was about $6 billion and that came from the New York Times so I suspect it was slanted to make the case.

And the whole discussion of illegal aliens paying income taxes is also laughable. Our income tax system is highly progressive and the bottom 50% of wage earners pay little or no income taxes. Illegal aliens almost universally fall into this low earnings category. In fact, lots of low wage earners qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) which means they get a REFUND LARGER than the taxes that were WITHELD from their paychecks. It is actually welfare disguised as a tax refund. A great many low wage earners are paying NEGATVIVE income taxes and a lot of illegal aliens fall into this category. There is a HUGE difference between filing a tax return which I will agree that quite a few illegal aliens do and actually paying any income tax which is a rarety for an illegal immigrant.

It is also disingenuous to say that they will never get credit for their contribution to Social Security. As the law stands now that is true. But this blogger and almost everybody who cites this often noted point are proponents of comprehensive immigration reform (shamnesty). Both of the last two shamnesty bills (as did the Regan Amnesty) would have allowed illegal aliens to reclaim monies from Social Security that they paid in while they were illegal and making felony fraudulent use of a bogus social security number. The blogger is trying to simultaneously trying to make the point that they are contrubutors because they pay this money in without being able to collect it while also arguing that we should allow them to collect it. Of course Social Security is a progressive system and low wage earners take more money out of the system then they ever pay in. As soon as we adjust their status from illegal to legal they will be transformed to mooches who DO take more out of the system then they contribute. Rather than being the saviors of Social Security they will be a new liability because they will take out more than they pay in. The rest of us will have to somehow make up the difference and it is not going to be easy to prop up this ponzi scheme.

Here is a fairly definitive although slighly dated study on the cost of illegal immigrants to Federal Taxpayers. They have not gotten any cheaper in the last couple of years.

The High Cost of Cheap Labor

It pegs the NET cost after considering the meager taxes they do pay of illegal aliens at about $10 billion annually and notes that this cost would climb to about $30 billion annually if we made them legal because they would be eligible for many more social services.

Of course the real cost of illegal aliens falls on the States because they are the ones who bear the brunt of the cost of education, healthcare and justice. Here is a good study which estimates these costs somewhere in the $100 billion annual range net of their small tax contribution:

The Costs to Local Taxpayers for Illegal or "Guest" Workers

That study is again dated and since the number of illegal aliens have climbed, So has the cost. California is worth looking at. Illegal aliens account for more than half of their endemnic budget deficit.

Illegal aliens are poor. When you import poverty into a social welfare state like ours the only possible outcome is an increased burden on the taxpayers.

You are absolutely right that I don't want the illegal immigrants here in the first place. We have an enormously generous legal immigration system. There are lots of needy people in the world and most of them don't live in countries where it is easy to jump across our border. I would far rather help one of these people than somebody who's first and almost every continuing act on our soil is to disrespect our laws. I have no desire to give serial criminals the voting franchise.

For those who think we need a new Ellis Island, you should watch this excellent movie which highlights the consequences to our country of this misguided thinking and also brings its futility into focus.

Immigration by the Numbers

It is all about the numbers.

I posted citations

I type billion instead of million my bad I was one letter off.

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

There is a big difference between million and billion. It may only be one letter but it is three zeros.

If you are now saying 50 milllion you are probably low. The commonly accepted figure is in the neighborhood of about $6 billion.

Illegal aliens cost the taxpayers of California about $10 billion annually net of the taxes they pay. And that is just one state. If you add it up for all 50 states it works out to be about $100 billion.

Spending $100 billion to get $6 billion is a pretty poor investment.

It is true that they pay a small amount in taxes but the revenue they generate for the treasuries at the Federal and State levels is trivial compared to the costs they impose on those treasuries.

No I made a typo error. And you also have to take into consideration that each state is different. Some are bigger and some are smaller california is on the larger side too.
