Facebook Groups Seek Preemptive Impeachment

Yes, you meet the most intellegent people through Facebook:

"Obama has voiced support for various unconstitutional programs such as the assault weapons ban, universal healthcare, various schemes for wealth distribution, and compulsory service. What are we going to do about it? RESIST SOCIALISM! IMPEACH HIM!"

"Obama is the man who will eventually bring america to face its downfall. HE deserves not only to not be president but to not be a part of americas government. His ideals conflict with the constitution and the ideals our fair country was founded on"

"LETS GET THAT IDIOT OUT FROM THE WHITE HOUSE!!! WE ARE SCREWED IF HE WILL BE THE LEADER OF THIS COUNTRY!!!!!! EVERYTHING WE HAVE EVER FOUGHT FOR WILL BE FOR NOTHING. THE WAR IN IRAQ WILL BE IN VAIN, GUN RIGHTS WILL BE JACKED UP! TAXES WILL SKY ROCKET! WE WILL HAVE A WEAK MILITARY! HE WILL WANT TO DONATE EVEN MORE MONEY TO HIS ACORN TERRORIST GROUPS!!!!!! STOP HIM!!!!!!"

"ALSO I DON'T KNOW ABOUT ANYONE ELSE BUT I AM ALSO SICK OF BEING CALL RACIEST FOR NOT LIKING HIM JUST BECAUSE HE IS BLACK! NO ONE CALLED PEOPLE RACIEST WHEN BUSH WAS PRESIDENT BECAUSE HE WAS WHITE! NOW WHY THE HECK ARE THEY DOING IT NOW???? EVERYONE IS NOW CONSIDERED A RACIEST IF THEY DON'T LIKE OBAMA! GET OVER IT AND QUIT GETTING ALL DEFENSIVE ABOUT US BEING RACIEST!!!!"

"oBomber says we cling to religion and guns because he doesn't want you to use jesus and your assault rifle to stop his rising civilian army!!!!"

The above quotes all came from various "Impeach Barack Obama" groups. Apparently the posters don't comprehend a few basic concepts like caps lock doesn't improve their argument. Or the fact that Obama doesn't take office for another few months. Or that “raciest” means “most racy” not “one who discriminates on basis of race”

Nor is Obama the only target of these attacks. Rahm Emmanuel is a "dirty Zionist." Obama supporters are "the dysgenic descendents of inbred peasants."

Of course, it’s not surprising that the American right-wing would be up in arms after their recent electoral defeat. Nor is it limited only to Facebook users.

Machelle Malkin, one of those people we can always count on to be entertainingly wrong called Obama a “classless jerk” and referred to him as “overlord-elect.” Republican Congressman Paul Broun told recently the Associated Press, "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential." Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh announced that Obama’s evil is so powerful that before he even is sworn in, he has already caused a recession. Michael Savage even accused the Senator of killing off his grandmother.

Regardless of what Obama’s policies are going to be like, these are going to be an interesting four to eight years.

respectlife's picture

You spelled "few" incorrectly :P Just thought I'd point that out since you're criticizing other people's grammar.

I don't see anything wrong with people being upset right now. Some people hail Obama as a solution to all their problems...others have a more realistic view of it and thus worry (like the Obama-Hitler connection). Finally, the radio talk show people are always dramatic and Michael Savage is an extremely sarcastic man, so it doesn't surprise me to hear that he said that. He probably said it as a side point. I agree with you that it'll be an interesting four years, though.

my own mistakes, and to laugh ad delicious irony. I'm sure you could point out a "frew" other mistakes if you read previous blogs.

Do you honestly think that Obama Hitler connections are a realistic worldview? It's fair game to compare the President-elect to Hitler? I mean, the conservatives were in an uproar (in my view, correctly) because leftists protestors compared Bush to Hitler. But it's okay to compare a Democratic prez to a mass murderer?

: ) Well, I won't, because I've made a "frew" mistakes, too.

So now the conservatives are showing the libs what it feels like. :P I think it's possible...Hitler gave great speeches, too, you know. But basically what it comes down to is that all of the conservative worst nightmares are turning real life. Here's this man that they honestly believe to be dangerous and they're bound to exaggerate, especially at first. Just let it blow over. Besides, there were "impeach Bush" stickers on cars up until after Obama was elected, so the conservatives aren't the only dramatic ones. ; )

Hitler gave great speeches, too, you know.

You know who else gave great speeches?

Abraham Lincoln, Socrates, George Washington, Pericles, Patrick Henry... Jesus. I can go on. This world had many great speakers, many of which were around long before Hitler.

Saying "Hitler gave great speeches too" says nothing more than "I don't like this person, so I'm going to pick an evil dictator to compare him to."

Just for fun, let's see how ridiculous Hitler comparisons are:

"Jesus was young and charismatic. He gave some great speeches that made the crowds love him, but so did Hitler."

I guess comparing Obama to Abraham Lincoln or George Washington wouldn't quite have the same affect of hate-spreading that comparing him to Hitler does. I guess maybe a more intelligent argument would be to use comparisons that actually make sense (comparing someone to Hitler based on their ability to make speeches doesn't make sense), but it's harder to spread fear when you use rational arguments.

Calling Obama a Marxist, while at the same time, comparing him to Hitler, only shows that someone can toss around random invectives to promote a baseless hatred. Educated comments go a long way when presenting an argument against somebody. Inaccurate as it would be, comparing Obama to Stalin would show someone educated themselves more thoroughly than reading an anonymously forwarded email.

This is the time for everyone to pull together as one nation. If the nation falls apart, it won't be because of Obama. It'll be because of the fear and hatred being promoted by people who feel that complaining and spreading insults and fear is more important than backing the new leader of our Nation.

You're right...comparing Obama to Hitler isn't fair...Hitler actually did something in life. But seriously...some of the things he's said and ideas he's thrown around are so socialistic/communistic...it's scary.

that is so horribly socialistic? just curious.

Well, one example would be his "redistribution of wealth" idea. Let's just steal from those who have worked to make something of themselves and give it to all the bums who don't want to work. Brilliant.

But the redistribution of wealth the richest people in America have been receiving the past 8 years, and the redistribution of wealth being used to nationalize 9 of the top US banks... that was ok and didn't count as socialism?

I also follow the teachings of Jesus to keep all your wealth and don't share.

let's take a state at random... say... Alaska. The citizens of that state recieve a yearly check which taps into the $30 billion state investment account built largely from royalties on its oil. "We can afford to share resource wealth with Alaskans and to temporarily suspend the state fuel tax," the governor of that state said.

Her name, of course, is Sarah Palin.

president Bush can point to specific reasons why they believe he should be impeached. Well... for the most part, there are the bandwagon jumpers, of course. The people wishing to impeach Obama are talking about a preemptive impeachment, which is just ridiculous. Their logic is the same as if you or I were arrested on suspicion that we might shoplift.

oh... and to add to the list of great public speakers:
how about Eisenhower or Reagan? Are they comparable to Hitler as well?

You mean aside from sponsoring or cosponsoring 570 bills? Introducing 50 amendments to bills, 16 of which were adopted by the Senate? Making legislative efforts in the following areas:

  • 25 bills regarding Energy Efficiency and Climate Change
  • 21 bills regarding Health care
  • 20 bills regarding public health
  • 14 bills regarding Consumer protection/labor
  • 13 bills regarding The needs of Veterans and the Armed Forces

  • 9 bills regarding Voting and Elections
  • 7 bills regarding Education
  • 6 bills regarding Hurricane Katrina Relief
  • 5 bills regarding The Environment
  • 4 bills regarding Homeland Security
  • 4 bills regarding Discrimination

15 bills he sponsored or cosponsored became law. Just to break those down:

    Two addressed foreign policy:

  • Promote relief, security and democracy in the Congo (2125)
  • Develop democratic institutions in areas under Palestinian control (2370).

    Three addressed public health:

  • Improve mine safety (2803)
  • Increased breast cancer funding (597)
  • Reduce preterm delivery and complications, reduce infant mortality (707).

Two addressed openness and accountability in government:

  • Full disclosure of all entities receiving federal funds (2590)

    Two addressed national security

  • Extend Terrorist Risk Insurance (467)
  • Amend the Patriot Act (2167)

One addressed the needs of the Armed Forces

  • Wave passport fees to visit graves, attend memorials/funerals of veterans abroad (1184).

Here's a fun tool for you to use: http://thomas.loc.gov/

Here is another blog that's already used that tool to research things Obama has been involved in, a few of which I've placed in this reply.

Here's a Washington Post article that looks at one bill in Particular Senator Obama fought to pass.

Maybe President Elect Obama didn't have the huge accomplishment of killing 6 million people during the Holocaust, but he certainly didn't become President by sitting on his ass, twiddling his thumbs. He accomplished quite a bit in his time as senator.

    o.O Real deep bills.

BTW, I'm well aware of that tool. In fact, I just used it in my "Freedom of Choice Act: Thumbs Down on Both Accounts" blog post. You should read it. It discusses Obama, as well.

No, Obama gets a different honor...he has the honor in participating in the deaths of 40 million innocent babies during our current Holocaust.

I still don't see how passing stamp bills and fundraising qualifies him as President though.

A president (and especially not a president elect) cannot be impeached simply because he is percieved as not being "accomplished enough." He must break the law.

the people who are calling for his impeachment before he has even been sworn in don't care about anything he's done. They aren't even really all that concerned with the law. They just don't like the man and do not want to see the person who won the presidency serve the four years we elected him for.

"How can we win where fools can be kings" Muse

    john w connelly jr's picture

    in context:

"Well, we don't even know where Obama was born. His grandmother died the night before the election. There's a lot of questions around this character that the media won't answer. Let's start with what country he's from. Why was the birth certificate never produced? Why in the world did he take time off from the campaign to visit the grandmother who then suddenly and suspiciously died virtually the night before the election? Tell me about that."

He's clearly saying that Obama offed his grandmother as part of his "birth certificate" conspiracy. His being 'sarcastic' really has nothing to do with it.

"when you hold a pen, you are at war" Attributed to Voltaire

Well, he probably knew that his grandmother was old and could possible die soon and wanted to see her.

you know people like to visit their family even future presidents.

i can imagine people saying that, but i can not imagine people actually believing that.

    respectlife's picture

Well, I can't stand Obama's guts PERIOD, but even I don't believe that he actually killed his grandmother. If he did, then he's even lower then I could imagine...but I think that if he would have killed her, it would have been a few days before the election and not the night before, because not enough people would have known about it before they voted.

i think it is funny that americans stereotype italians as people that tend to exggerate situations. you would never believe this. but america is one of the biggest drama divas out there.

the public needs to relax. america is based on a system of checks and balances that would prevent anything too extrordinarily "radical" to happen.
Remember we have our first Amendment rights. the public wouldn't allow it.

I don't think Facebook even existed back in 1999. But there were plenty of liberals pushing for the impeachment of Bush almost from the day he was elected. It does not surprise me or bother me that Obama is getting similar treatment.

Of course these same liberals would probably say that the treatment they gave Bush was just payback for the treatment that Republicans gave Clinton. Of course Clinton ended up being disbarred for the commission of an actual crime. And some of his various "gates" like Filegate were very ugly stuff.

What comes around goes around and I don't expect the bitter partisanship to stop anytime soon.
