Barrack Obama became the 44th president of the United States of America last Tuesday. This was the election of a lifetime; it will never be forgotten. The first African American was elected president.
In Obama’s acceptance speech, he mentioned an old woman that lived just after the horrible time of slavery. She experienced life without the ability to vote for many years, not only because she was a woman, but because she was black. Humongous strides have been made since this time. We get to experience the next step in American democracy. I was very moved by Obama’s speech about the change that has occurred and the change that will occur in the future.
There was one thing, however, that really irked me about the presidential election. Although this presidency is a pivotal point in American history, the news talked nothing about his policies and platforms. They only talked about the racial barrier that Obama broke through to become president. I am scared for the future if what is discussed in the next four years is only a bout the fact that Obama is black. There is so much going on in the world right now; it would be a shame for America to not actively participate in it.

The news dissected his policies and platforms every which way. I knew his policies and platforms inside and out. I knew McCain's policies and platforms inside and out. It was covered on NPR, CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS, in our local paper, Time magazine, the Yahoo homepage, etc. I'm sure other news outlets covered it too, but those are the ones to which I had access.
Perhaps you need more diversity in your news outlets? Or maybe that was all you were interested in? Sometimes the brain turns off when it hears something it doesn't care about or understand. That's not an insult, just an observation. For example, my brain turns off when the news starts reporting on the Dow.

I know what you are saying. Its a little scary that he constantly campaigned for the "change we need" and "yes we can," but what exactly is the change we need? These motivation phrases seem to be just that. Hopefully he can do more than just talk.
