By the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith (pt. 1)

My next entry, about the Monarchy of the United Kingdon is rather long. So, I will post it in pieces:
Many people feel that Queen Elizabeth II holds an obsolete position. As monarch of the United Kingdom and its commonwealth nations, they see her power as being purely titular. They think that the royal family is only a group of glorified celebrities, and that there is no need to keep an impotent figure head as part of the government. I, however, would strongly disagree. The queen’s power is mostly ceremonial, but is an integral part of British government. Removing her from the government would be to the great detriment of British culture and society. She represents a longstanding tradition in British history. The queen is a source of pride to her people and holds great sway over their hearts and minds.
The power of the British monarch is very limited and mostly ceremonial, but does contribute to balance of power. The ruler has certain reserve powers. In general these powers are merely formalities. They are as follows:
1. The sovereign appoints each new prime minister, usually the leader of whichever party has a majority in Parliament. However, she does have the option of selecting a prime minister of her own choosing whom she feels would better serve the country. This power was last used in 1963 when Queen Elizabeth appointed Sir Alec Douglas-Home as Prime Minister, on the advice of Harold Macmillan, an elder statesman.
To Be Continued.

200 words is a MINIMUM limit. There is no maximum. A well written blog can be any length, really, because if it is good, it will hold the reader's attention. If you are going to post something in parts, blogging etiquette recommends spacing them out by a few hours or days.
