As Americans, our founding Fathers rose and fought against the tyranny of monarchs. In those days of infamy where
the shadow of Nazi oppression threatened to blot out our light of democracy in Europe, our greatest generation valiantly
stood shoulder to shoulder with our brothers in Europe and shouted; mankind would not be bullied, the policies of
hatred must not succeed. When the Russians erected a wall and divided not only a nation, but the nations of the world
into those of freedom and those who only paid lip service to that grand ideal; America kept the torch of liberty ablaze until
Berlin was once again a single city, and the shackles were lifted from Eastern Europe.
Now, we live in a world where over eight and a half million human beings die each year by easily preventable
diseases, in a time wherein American blood is spilt daily on foreign shores, and in a financial crisis that is threatening
to shatter economies across the globe; do not be mistaken and doubt that it is in these crucial moments that history is
not avidly watching.
Eight and a half million? Mankind can and must do better. America can do better. The same American spirit that
triumphed over Hitler, that fought so viciously against slavery, and that landed a man on the moon, must once more be
called into action. The problems we face in this new millennium cannot all be answered with brute force.
The starving children of the world cannot eat machine guns, no amount of nuclear weapons will ever equal medical
care for those who so urgently need it. We must as individuals, and communities come together as one and lead not
just our country, but our entire world into a grander tomorrow.
A New Frontier
