Well recently in the state of California prop. 8 a law that made it illegal for same sex couples to get married was passed. I honestly think that this is discrimination against the gay and lesbian community, but in a way i ask myself " why dont they just build off their own branch of religion?" its been done before, many people have taken an existing religion and developed it and changed it to their liking, so why not now? we are in a time and age were we need to see some change. traditions and repetition is good, but not for everyone. the gay and lesbian community could solve this whole issue if they just broke off and made their own branch of religion. i mean there are many people willing to join this new religion were they would follow all their old beliefs, but would be given the right to get married. this way instead of having to spend millions of dollars trying to advertise against propositions they could be building a church of their own and starting new chapters all over the country, maybe even all over the world. yes there is a big probability that the existing religions would try to debate this new and modernized version of their religion, but its better for them to have their own church and not have to "corrupt" the existing church. a big issue that was brought up was the fact that if gay marrige was legalized schools would have to teach students about gay marriage, and that the parents would not be notified about it, there for they would not be able to prevent this from happening. since the state and the church are separate bodies, with this new religion we wouldnt have to worry about the schools having to teach about gay marriage because the school is a public institution, there for it is not required to teach about religion, unless stated in a law which im shure does not exist yet.

It's about legal rights, not religion. Despite what the religious right would have you believe, religion does not give you rights. The constitution does.

...the Constitution doesn't give us rights, either. It just enumerates them.

Really? Do you really think this is all about religion? Churches across the country will already marry same-sex couples. There's no need to form a separate religion. It's about the legal rights granted by the government to those individuals who are legally married.
