Barack Obama was elected President of the United States of America on November 4, 2008 by a diverse body of US citizens and embraced by the world. This country embraced change, hope and the movement of the future by electing a President that represents all people and will renew a brighter vision in the dream of tomorrow.
This election was not just about the youth vote, but about every person that needed an ounce of hope that today, tomorrow and days into the future would be better for us and the next generation. It also allowed for people who fought so hard for equality and fairness to be represented at the highest level possible.
Barack Obama's clear victory was a victory for that 106 year old woman (God Bless Her Soul) that got a chance to vote for a man, who happens to be bi-racial (but notably and proudly African-American), who won the presidency. She represents every African-American person in her age group, those before her and those baby boomers up to her age, that clearly understand what she has seen, what she has learned, what she can teach others, and what she has witnessed in her lifetime.
Barack Obama's victory gave every person that never lived to see this day a vote. Barack Obama's victory gave every person that marched, that volunteered, that organized, that prayed and wept, that was enslaved, that was discriminated against, that was injured, scarred or murdered for wanting equality a vote. It gave life to a dream that people wanted, desired and saw ahead of their days. It represented every human being that was liberated by the Civil Rights Movement.
Barack Obama has understood the need for the change and so has America. America has spoken. Do not misunderstand. This is a stepping-stone towards changing the mindset of those who are not ready for change. We take this step with great respect and enthusiasm and so should each American and the world.
