Well, Tuesday night to Wednesday morning was a long night. I stayed up, as many did, unitl three thirty to get my government homework (which needed information from the election) completely finished. At eleven o clock, I was on the phone with my ex-boyfriend when the next president was announced. I am an Obama supporter, so I was ecstatic. I was so happy when I heard that he won Ohio and Pennsyvania, because that was when I knew he had a good shot of winning. Now, for all of you that voted for McCain or supported him for whatever reason, I would just like to say, I'm fine with that. I'm not a McCain hater. I simply supported Obama instead, because I believe in his policies. I love his blueprint for change. I am looking forward to January 20th when our next, very eloquent president takes office with another stellar speech. I believe in what Obama has to say. Because of that, I would like to defend him. In my small, very conservative town, Obama was not the winner. Most of the townspeople voted for McCain (or Ralph Nader) I respect that. I do, however feel that they should respect Obama and those of us that support him. You would never ever catch me insulting McCain. I may tell you that I don't agree with something he said or did, but I would never be a "basher." Unfortunately, the people in my area do not show that same respect for my candidate that I show for theirs. Since the race began, there have been countless (and ridiculous) attacks that border on lunatic. I mean, come on, Obama is not the next Hitler. Where would you even get that information. Nor is he a socialist (his policies are centrist). He is DEFINITELY not Fidel Castro or the antichrist. NO. He isn't. It's true. There are many logical arguments that one could make for not voting for Obama, but it's too late now. If you want to make an argument, please please, ground it in fact--not your interpretation or opinion. In my opinion, now that Obama has been chosen, we should support him. All of us. He will not take your money from you, force you to have an abortion, or steal your children away from you. He is not a terrorist, nor does he, in actuality, "pal around" with them (the said terrorist actually endorsed McCain). Please take the time to be informed, and if you wish to argue or show your opinion, make sure it is at least respectful and logical. Using a ridiculous argument makes you seem immature and desperate. In this time of political separation, America needs to find hope for compromise in our new President-elect. I'm sure he will do his best to achieve what America truly needs.
