I learnt that peace is peace is freedom from war or better still harmonious reltion which is what our muslim brothers and sisers say their religion stands for, but how can we relate peace to killing of our fellow human being?
I was opportuned to witness a crisis that took place in the Northern part of Nigeria which is the region dominated by the Islamic worshippers. It was the 2002 crisis that sprung up due to the miss world peagent. They claimed that the way the contestant dress and display themselves go against the doctrine of their religion. Therefore, they have to fight for Allah.
In this sense, the only way they cold express themselves was to bring up a terrible crisis which ended with a lot of people dead and thousands left without homes, fatherless, motherless and so on. It all started as a religious crisis and ended as an ethnic crisis. They killed as many christian leaders as they could, burnt down churches burnt down houses belongig to christians. Christian leaders were killed in such a shameful and disgraceful way such as through sluttering or burning them alive. They raided elementary schools and burnt them down with pupils in them.
Live coverage by the media showed how they (perpetrators) were rejoicing after killing anyone. when they were interviewed as to their reason to this act, they said their religion was not respected by the contestants of the peagent and thus they have to fight for Allah.
This acts might not be so pronounced in ur society today, but they are still much pronounced in places like Nigeria and other places.
Are we heathen or are we still brethren? Or should i say peace is synonymous to war?
That is absolutely horrible what happen. Even sadder is the fact that i wasn't even aware of this.
I have known muslims and they always dissassociate themselves from the extremist muslims.
but i do see a trend must of the people committing these acts are young men that really haven't been educated. it upsets me to read this.
That is it, you will like no also know that though the perpetrators might be illetrates, they are being sponsored by our so called learned people in the society. its hard to place, it was really traumatic for me also, thi is one experience out of a number of them, trust u do not want to se them in this crazy act
and do nothing but further a stereotypes against Muslims.
By the way, I wanted to apologise if you took the comment I had made on a previous blog about Muslim children to be any form of an attack on you. I hope you understand that I was simply asking for a clarification.
