Research on Gang Violence

Gang violence is on the rise throughout the world. This research on gang violence took us to the conclusion that their most grave and perplex problem involves not only a difference of race, but wider and more manifest differences in color and physical features. These make an easy and natural basis of distinctions, discrimination, and problems from both sides, and that is when the gangs emerge. A gang is defined as an organized group of criminals with informal leadership. Different kinds of gangs have existed throughout history, to wit: Mexicans vs. Blacks and Whites vs. Asians. Its members usually go by the name of “thugs” and they use symbols, hand signs, rituals, and slang language among each other.
To come up with our presentation, we met twice a week for the past three weeks and discussed and researched on different sources online that provided us with enough information to put the project together. It is overwhelming to know that each year the number of gangs and gang members’ increases drastically and with them, violence and the amount of death on the streets increases also. We believe that in order to reduce gangs from emerging, it is important to work together and inform our upcoming students about the consequences of their actions.
What to these gang members might mean simply a way of expressing themselves like they do when they spread their so called “art” around the walls of our cities, in simpler words “graffiti”, has consequences attached to it, to wit: the value of properties decrease, and the overall view of a community seems to be affected by the presence of such misbehavior.
Therefore it is important to inform our underclassman in order to prevent the uprising of new gangs which brings along violence to our streets and often death to innocent people, and if possible, along with the underclassman, hopefully some of the teenagers already involved in this world of vandalism might realize that their actions affect not only our community but the entire country.
