So Today is the Day

this morning at 6:00 AM (MST) I awoke to what i thought was a normal day of school, work, and homework. But was I mistaken. When I got up to get ready for school my house (which is usually always full of energy) had more noise than I thought it would on a normal Tuesday morning. I walked downstairs to see my sister, my niece and nephew, my other sister, my brother, and my mother and father all running around ready to leave. Did i miss something? it was 6:04 in the morning and everyone is up moving around like its 10:00 at night... Well i did, because this is the day that I can legally vote for the very first time! I had completly forgotten and rushed to get ready to go so they wouldn't leave me. I threw on my "apathy sucks... vote" shirt, jeans, shoes and ran out the door with them. We stood in line with the many others who were patiently waiting for the library to open. This was the day that I had a chance to make my voice heard. Like the campaign slogans, "Vote for change." I finally could say that I was involved in one of the biggest changes in America.

It was an experience that I thougth would have fireworks after I cast my vote, but alas there were none. I went to my car with my mother and she asked, "So, how do you feel now that you had cast your first vote?"
"I expected the world to stop or for something huge to happen, but it didn't. It was still fun standing in line, talking to the elderly who told their whole life's story while we waited." I replied with a chuckle.
My mother looked at me, smiled and said "Well that's the whole idea babe. The small things like voting make a big deal such as the next president of the united states. Your voice is among this nation that have a say, and tonight the American voice will be heard no matter who wins."

She's right, but I kind of still wanted a big neon sign that says "FIRST TIME VOTER" over my head just for kicks.
