During family prayers last night, I reflected on the song "Proud to be an American", specifically the line "where at least I know I'm free." This got me to thinking about all the freedoms I enjoy as an American.
In America, I'm free to pray with my family.
In America, I'm free to wear controversial t-shirts.
In America, I'm free to go to church whenever I want.
In America, I'm free to be educated by my parents.
In America, I'm free to hate the government without being thrown in jail.
In America, I'm free to think as an individual.
In America, I'm free to follow my dreams.
In America, I'm free to speak my beliefs.
In America, I'm free to carry a gun.
In America, I'm free to go to college.
In America, I'm free to marry whom I choose.
In America, I'm free to choose my government officials.
In America, I'm free to have as many kids as I want.
In America, I'm free for countless other things.
All this and more makes me really PROUD to be an American. This pride in my country makes me frightened to consider what could happen if America lost the American dream.
Please, on Election Day (today), remember the American dream. Remember the thousands who have fought and died for your freedom! Remember American pride. Remember why our Founding Fathers fought so passionately for freedom. REMEMBER.
There is no other country like America. We cannot lose the fight. Don't forget to VOTE!
