40 Days for Life: A Closing

Today marks Day 40 in the 40 Days for Life. I can't believe the time has passed so quickly! This also means that Election Day is only two days away (what a heart-lurching thought!). The incredible success the 40 Days for Life has had is truly remarkable and I am in awe of God's grace in this whole matter.

40 Days for Life has been influential in saving the lives of at least 441 babies this year! That is 441 lives saved, 441 women who will not have to live with lifelong regrets, 441 families spared the pains of abortion.

Each life is so precious. When I consider how much one person can do, I marvel at the thought of what these 441 babies will do for our future. Think of the most influential person you know. Consider all they have done to help you in your life and the lives of others. On contrary, think of all they have done to hurt your life and the lives of others. Each person has the capacity for incredible good or incredible evil. Nevertheless, it is all a choice. Being born is the root of all other choices. Every choice you make occurs after you are born. Are we to deny the thousands of children who die daily the choice to make a difference in their community? I pray that it is always for the good.

In addition to the lives saved, countless people have quit their jobs at abortion facilities. Various facilities are even advertising in the paper for people to work for them. Various abortion clinics have even been CLOSED on the days they normally preform the abortions. Reasons don't matter. All that matters is that babies didn't die in those "clinics" on those days.

The pro-life movement has a good deal to thank God about right now. I ardently pray that pro-life politicians are elected on Tuesday. I also pray that, should pro-death candidates be elected, that the Freedom of Choice Act is not passed. This will destroy all the work of the pro-life movement for the past 36 years. It would be detrimental, not only to the pro-life movement, but also to America as a whole.

Dear God, please let us recognize that all power is only granted through you. In that frame of mind, I pray that only pro-life candidates are elected to office come Tuesday. Please, gracious Lord, help our country and preserve us a bit longer. Amen.

Various abortion clinics have even been CLOSED on the days they normally preform the abortions. Reasons don't matter. All that matters is that babies didn't die in those "clinics" on those days.

Really? So even if those clinics just moved the abortion day to another day temporarily, or those women just went to different abortion clinics, "all that matters" is that the abortions weren't performed on specific days at specific locations? That seems awfully short-sighted.

Just as silly is the idea that the Republican party is "pro-life" just because they want to overturn Roe. Overturning Roe would not stop a single abortion; it would just force women from some states to travel to other states.

The Democratic party may not want to overturn Roe, but they do want to bring universal health care to the US, which will save thousands of infants from needless death every year, and prevent thousands of abortions by making birth control more available. They also want to end the war in Iraq, which has killed thousands of soldiers and innocent civilians.

Shouldn't being "pro-life" be about promoting life, not just turning abortion over to the states where it will remain legal and easily available?

Well, to clarify my meaning of that statement, what I meant was it didn't really matter whether it was closed specifically because of the peaceful protest or for another reason, such as the abortionist had a cold that day. The fact of the matter is that it was closed.

Well, I'm not necessarily stating that the Republicans are pro-life either. However, I think they are the lesser of the two evils.

Universal health care...oh yeah, that socialist mentality. A good deal (approx. 60%) of women commit abortions because their birth control failed. War is not an ideal event. However, our soldiers support the war from a first hand point of view. They think it is necessary. Why don't we support them? In addition, McCain was a POW for FIVE YEARS and Palin's eldest son is joining the army. I think they understand the effects of war perfectly well and probably better than the Democrats. Again, war is not ideal but sometimes it is necessary.

people who see Republicans as "pro-life" or even the "lesser of two evils"

Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.
Since then, we have had how many Republican presidents? What specifically have they done to end Roe v. Wade? President Bush was a republican president, with a republican majority in the House and Senate, and a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, and we still have legalized abortion in this country. It just seems odd to me.

It's an honest question, please don't confuse it for anything else.

I know and I agree...the Republicans don't do anything. However, that's part of why they're decent. As long as they're not doing anything, the situation isn't getting any worse. Obama's said that the first thing he's going to do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act which will make Roe vs. Wade look like a kid's game. The FOCA will remove all restrictions on abortion, including that you need an authorized doctor and any rules on parental consent, both of which are potentially dangerous for the woman herself.

I'm not being partisan, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But abortion was lower under President Clinton then it is now. Teen pregnancy, again, lower in the 90s. By not doing anything, the Republicans appear to be making things worse.

I would like to read more about the Freedom of Choice Act, if you wouldn't mind giving me some more info.

I think abortion rates went way down under Clinton (around 17-18%) and then stayed stagnant under Bush. I don't think there was a dramatic increase in the number of abortions in the past 8 years, though I think the number of abortions among teens and women in poverty rose a bit.

You're right; not doing anything doesn't help, but social and economic support does.
