In just a few short days, Americans will head to the polls to vote for president. ProgressiveU is all about getting involved and this time around, we'd like for you to have a little fun with it!
You want to be President and have earned yourself the nomination to run against candidates McCain and Obama. Your job in this challenge is to write a speech telling us why we should vote for you. Your speech should go over three important issues of your choosing and what your stance is on them (i.e. how you would fix this problem).
In your speech, you should briefly highlight two of those issues and explain the third in detail. We want to know what the issue is, why it is important and how your plan for addressing that issue will work.
You will also have to point out your most questionable associate and back your decision to maintain/break said relationship. Who is this person? Why is your association with him or her questionable? How are you dealing with it?
The title of your entry should be a campaign slogan or platform that you pick to appeal to you constituents.
Your speeches should be tagged as "ProgressiveU Presidential Platform" to be considered for this bonus opportunity. Only one entry per user will be considered and entries must be posted by Tuesday, November 4th, 2008.
Those that successfully complete this challenge (and follow the rules!) will receive 500 points towards the scholarship competition. In addition, users who comment on any one of the entries will receive an additional 50 points. Please note that you will only receive the additional 50 points once!
We realize that many of you do not live in the United States and that's okay! You can still participate in this challenge by writing your campaign speech. Pick issues that are important to you and you will do well!

This bonus op is so intriguing; I LOVE bonus points opportunities!!!!
I did the Scavenger Hunt and it took me a lot of time to find all the answers but it was worth it in the end...
So now, this bonus op caught my eye not only because it's worth 50 points but also it will probably take me a lot of time just to figure out what to say and how to organize my ideas.
Also, I might be doing a LOT of research for this. Fortunately, tomorrow is Saturday and I could go to the library.

Many people are bashing the presidential candidates, because they associated with someone rather questionable. These people may go completely against the candidate's platform, or may have a history of violence, terrorism, discrimination, etc. Basically, we're asking you to tell the story of your own questionable associate, and why your association with them should not prevent you from becoming President.

I'm disappointed! I finally had time yesterday to work on it, but every time I tried to get on ProU was down.

From the few faculty I was able to get ahold of, I have decided to allow people to post their platforms through the end of the day tomorrow, due to the fact that the site was down most of yesterday and today. After that, submissions will no longer be considered, and we'll have voting available by the weekend.
