I know my kitchen table turns you on

Introduction to Political Theory...

That is the description of the class I enrolled in for this term, but I learn so much more than just about political philosophers. For instance, Fun Fact #48 coming at you. Did you know the origins behind the table cloth? Back in the day, the day of Victorian England to be precise, bare table legs were thought to cause perverted thoughts in men, so they had to be covered up. And also, just in time for Thanksgiving. Dark meat and white meat were deemed such, because asking for a thigh or a piece of the breast would have been scandalous!

I really enjoy this class though. Not only because I learn useless trivia that I can then post in blogs, but also, it actually makes me think. What I have been thinking about lately correlates to what I'm learning in that class. And it comes down to one simple word....CHOICE.

We are bombarded everyday with choices. Commercials tell us what cleanser kills more bacteria and what mascara gives you the longest lashes imaginable without the clumping. Politicians [especially nowadays, I think there is an election coming up or something ;) ] tell us why we should vote for them, or, actually the strategy seems to be more like why we SHOULDN'T vote for the other guy. Religious institutions spread "the word" and, it seems that every single one is the "true" faith.

So, where does this leave me. A little overwhelmed to be honest. Now, clumpy lashes probably aren't that big a deal (thats what Q-tips are for), but do choices you make in the other realms really make a difference? And is anyone really "right"?

Since man first appeared on this planet, hundreds of political philosophies have been born, and so far none of them have been perfect (either by fault in the logic behind them, or maybe just based on the fact that humans can't reach perfection). But, since none have been perfect, does that really mean that perfection is unattainable, doesn't exist, or have we just not found/reached it yet? And, because we haven't reached this level yet, why do we continue down these paths that have been proven to not work? Are we hoping something will magical change between this trial and the last ones that failed?

Honestly, I really don't have answers, I just have questions, but I would enjoy other people's insight/perspective/opinions etc. on the matter.

Interesting class. Sounds like something I would not mind taking. And I believe there are always going to be more questions than answers.
