Friends... You know the "Real" ones.

My roommate Matt said true friends are rare and hard to come by. This statement didnt seem to click until now, as I'm evaluating a friend.

There is a difference between friends and true friends. And that line can be, at times, difficult to determine. People arent always as they seem. There will be those that seem like your best friend but if you notice... they only call when they want and/ or need something. Money, a ride, a place to stay, homework to copy. Its all the same. Ask yourself

"Can I call this person at 2:00am?"
"Would I go to them and ask advice?"
"Can I trust this person with a secret?"
"What have I done for this person and what has this person done for me?"

Relationships of any kind require work from both parties. Its not a one way street folks.

I look over and analyze my friends list on myspace, facebook, and my contacts in my phone. Which ones fit those requirements? Few. Very few.

And I finally realized that Matt told me, true friends are rare and hard to come by, for a reason.
To teach me that out of most of my friends there are very few I can full heartedly trust. And to remind me not to take those very few for granted.

Very true. I've found that in my own relationships. It's shocking how long you can know someone and one day realize how little you know about them. The older I get, the more I realize that "real" friends are really hard to come by...
