SHOULD ABORTION BE LEGALSIED????????????

Abortion, which is referred as the induced termination of the foetus in its early
stage or the termination of pregnancy, is one of the most argued matters at present.
Abortion was first legalized in the USSR in the 1960s and at present there are some
countries where it is legalized and some where it is not. In some countries people seem
to have divided into the two opposing groups of pro-life and pro-choice believers. The
controversial matter is connected to the women rights as well as the right of the foetus,
which is a potential child and individual and the legalization of abortion is bound to
bring out many positive as well as negative consequences.
Even when abortion is not legalized, it is quite probable that people will continue
aborting illegally and this can promote the ill-equipped and clandestine clinics operated
by unskilled practitioners. In this regard, it is better if abortion is legalized; at least
such back room clinics are discouraged and people get a safer and a cleaner place for
the act. There are cases when abortion can prove important in saving the life of a
mother facing some complications.
One must consider the fact that women, to a fair extent, have the right to choose
in such matters. A woman might wish not to have a child in certain stages of her life
when she might be working hard to excel in life and to make name for herself. She may
conceive as a result of some carelessness but may not be willing to risk a career or a
success by having a child when she is not ready for one. In such case, legalized
abortion can be very helpful to their cause.
Besides this, legalizing abortion can be most beneficial to the victims of rape.
Though only a few of the raped women become pregnant, it would always be utterly
inhuman of anyone to force a victim of rape to bear the child after all the adversity she
has already faced.
Moreover, one cannot also deny the fact that prohibition is not always a good
idea; for example, in the case of prohibition of alcohol, people went against the
prohibition itself and it also promoted the illegal sale of liquor. Similar consequence is
quite probable in the case of abortion as well. Prohibiting it can lead to disagreement
from people and those ill-equipped back room clinics can prevail and this certainly does
not seem to be an acceptable option.
However, the legalization can have some negative consequences as well. In a
way, it can discriminate between the rich and the poor in many societies. The rich ones
would get a kind of independence where they can have fun and also get access to easy
abortion. But the poor ones would not have the same privilege. In some societies, a
poor mother from a family already burdened with some girl children might be forced to
abort a girl child even though it could be fatal to her. Still, sons are preferred to
daughters in many societies as such.
Such preference of the boy child to a girl child can cause another major problem.
It encourages sex-selective abortions and people might choose to abort any girl child;
this can cause a serious imbalance in our societies. It is very irrational and absolutely
inhuman to have a foetus murdered after realizing that it is of a baby girl.
I addition to this, the legalization would also encourage in a way the people who
are after fun and are not at all guilty or repentant to a slight extent of having ended a
potential
