"The divinity of the institution of marriage is being mocked by the growing presence of homosexuality and cohabitation, as satan is focusing his attack on families. He knows how to appeal to people’s defensive side and supposed rationale that Korihor used to defy Christ. For example, he uses certain people as mouthpieces to counter the seemingly “self-righteous” argument that marriage can only be between a man and a woman. Proposition 8 can and would have so many repercussions if it wasn’t passed. Not only would it redefine marriage to include homosexuals, but it would leave marriage to open ended interpretation so that it could be questioned by polygamists, and people who want to marry animals. It mocks Gods plan for men and women and the ability to procreate. History books would have to be written with the accepted idea that homosexuals and heterosexuals are equal in marriage. It would prove that the majority of society as we know it is being corrupted by satans logic, which will be a turning point in this worlds history. We know as latter day saints that these are the signs of the coming of his time. We have much to fear if the majority of the people in the Promised Land are wicked. This land would be destroyed by God! He is a man of his word. Right now, wards and individuals are being asked to make aware of the consequences of proposition 8. Yet, even another consequence would be that church buildings could be sued for not allowed homosexuals to participate in marriage ordinances. Many church buildings like the temple would lose their tax exempt status!"
my response:
saying that without prop 8, people would be inclined to marry animals, is rubbish.
regardless of your RELIGIOUS affiliation, the LEGAL aspect of prop 8 is ridiculous.
it is up to churches whether they want to "cease the devils evil plan" not the Federal government.
it is not up to the federal government to decide what a marriage is or isn't.
as great of an idea it may be for the people of BYU, maybe its best you think of the rest of the world.
people dont choose to be gay.
just like how you didnt choose to be straight.
i meant this is the most un-hostile manner.
thanks for being open-minded.
also,
1)Being gay is not natural.
-And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts...
2)Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay.
-In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.
-People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all;
-Hence why women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed;
-And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children.
-So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children.
-Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion.
-In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home.
-Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms.
-Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
