With the 2008 election only one week away, I am taking a class in political science. Since we are all around 18 and will be registering to vote soon, (or, as in my case, already registered) we are learning about various political parties and their views on issues such as education, economics, and foreign policy. So, starting today, I will be writing a series of blog entries focusing on the 2008 platforms of the Democratic and Republican parties. I hope to also cover the platforms of several other parties, such as the Green Party and the Constitution Party.

All of my information will be taken from the official websites of the featured parties. Here they are below:

www.gop.com/2008platform/ (Republican Party)

www.democrats.org/a/party/platform.html (Democratic Party)

www.gp.org/platform.shtml (Green Party)

www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php (Constitution Party)

Just so you know, liberalism is to the left of the political spectrum and conservatism is to the right. "Moderate" describes someone who is neither liberal nor conservative. A radical is an extreme leftist and a reactionary is an extreme rightist. Socialism lies to the political left and Fascism lies to the political right. Now for some examples...

Ralph Nader-Left
George W. Bush- Right
Sarah Palin-Right
Josef Stalin-Left
Adolf Hitler-Right
Mohandas Gandhi-Left
Margaret Thatcher-Right
Gordon Brown- Right
Dalai Lama- Left
Nelson Mandela-Left

Happy reading, and enjoy my first platform post later today!
