Election Desensitization

I've always been interested in politics and I keep myself pretty well informed because of it, but with the election a week away I'm getting worn out. I used to love campaign commercials (from both sides), especially the mudslinging ones because they are so ridiculous and entertaining, but now I switch the channel every time one comes on. I have just gotten sick of hearing about the Presidential election and even sicker of seeing the same ad every commercial break. The election is everywhere. You can't escape it. Thank goodness there is only a week left, because I'm not sure if I could stand anymore.
This Presidential election has been the most tracked and covered we've ever had. This is good. People who don't actively inform themselves need to know what's going on. I just fear the average American is only hearing the ridiculous slander and is loosing sight of the real issue-THE ISSUES.
The big media focus on the Presidential election is also pulling people away from the just as important (if not more important) local elections. Politicians elected in a person's local area are going to have a more direct impact on his/her life and community than the elected President, but many people aren't concerning themselves with these elections. I think this is sad and may have a very adverse affect.
We need to be careful. I recommend that everyone go out and research your local candidate's platform. To make important decisions in that little booth on November 4th, you need to be well informed. Otherwise, it's like using a lottery to choose national, state, and local government officials. That's not democracy. Use the most important right we have as Americans (along with freedom). Vote and vote well. Your vote is a powerful tool (or weapon in some cases). Voters, choose well on Tuesday because the future of our country is in your hands.
